U23 Uzbekistan has 2 more quality players to prepare for the match against U23 Vietnam. The Uzbekistan Football Federation announced that the duo Abdukodir Khusanov and Abbosbek Fayzullaev arrived from Europe to Qatar this morning (April 22) to join the team.
Khusanov is on the payroll of Lens. He has played 13 matches this season for the French team (9 matches in Ligue 1, 2 matches in the Champions League and 2 matches in the Europa League). Khusanov's preferred position is center back.
U23 Uzbekistan beat U23 Kuwait 5-0.
Fayzullaev plays for the famous Russian club CSKA Moscow. A player with a strong position in the attacking midfielder position, this winger is a regular in the Russian Premier League. He scored 4 goals and had 11 assists in 26 appearances for CSKA Moscow.
Both Khusanov and Fayzullaev are Uzbekistan internationals. They were part of the Central Asian team that played a friendly against Vietnam in October 2023.
Khusanov plays for Lens Club (France) and has played in the Champions League.
The star duo will not play in the first two matches due to the lack of agreement from their respective clubs. As the 2024 AFC U23 Championship does not coincide with the international matches scheduled by FIFA, clubs are not required to release players to the national team.
Khusanov was still on Lens' Ligue 1 squad yesterday. Meanwhile, Fayzullaev started for CSKA Moscow and played 64 minutes. After the weekend matches, these two players immediately moved to Qatar to join the team.
U23 Uzbekistan won 2 victories and topped Group D of the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. The Central Asian team is better than U23 Vietnam in terms of additional goals. The direct confrontation between the two teams in the final match will decide the top spot in the group.
