U22 Vietnam faces harsh reality after SEA Games 32

After the 32nd SEA Games, the V-League will return to action with the 8th round matches taking place this weekend. This is also the time when the U22 Vietnam players face the harsh reality at the club level.

Most of the U22 Vietnam squad participating in the 32nd SEA Games often have to sit on the bench in the V-League. The names that are regularly on the starting field can be counted on the fingers of one hand, such as Le Van Do, Ho Van Cuong, Luong Duy Cuong or Phan Tuan Tai.

The main scorer of U22 Vietnam at SEA Games 32, striker Nguyen Van Tung, will have to compete for a position with Lucao, Nguyen Van Quyet, and Pham Tuan Hai in the Hanoi FC squad.

Khuat Van Khang will have to compete with Nguyen Hoang Duc in the Viettel FC midfield. Tran Quang Thinh will have to compete with Huynh Tan Sinh, Elton Monteiro at Cong An Ha Noi Club...

Quan Van Chuan, Nguyen Van Truong, Vu Tien Long, Nguyen Thai Son, Nguyen Quoc Viet... also had to face similar challenges when they left U22 Vietnam to return to the V-League.

Coach Philippe Troussier has affirmed that the current generation of U22 Vietnamese players is not as bad as everyone thinks and the SEA Games 32 bronze medal is just the beginning of a new journey towards the 2024 U23 Asian Qualifiers.

However, the most common reason to explain the failure of U22 Vietnam at SEA Games 32 is: "This generation of players is not as talented as the previous generation, there are no stars like Quang Hai, Van Hau, Tien Linh or Cong Phuong".

SEA Games 32 is an opportunity for the U22 Vietnam players to leave their mark in the hearts of fans. However, none of coach Philippe Troussier’s players left Cambodia as “rising stars”.
