Phu Duc is a commune in the western wing of Chau Thanh district (Ben Tre). The commune has 7 hamlets with a natural area of over 1,470 hectares, including more than 918 hectares of agricultural land. The main economic activity of the commune is agriculture, people grow fruit trees including durian, green-skinned grapefruit, rambutan and other crops of economic value.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Duc Commune, Chau Thanh District (Ben Tre Province) Bui Van Lam said: The commune has a quite favorable geographical location, deposited by alluvium of Tien River and Ba Lai River, so the land is fertile, favorable for the development of fruit tree cultivation, including durian cultivation.
Implementing the local economic development plan, in February 2024, the People's Committee of the commune coordinated with the Commune Farmers' Association to implement a skillful mass mobilization model "Mobilizing people to develop the economy to reach 500 million VND/ha/year in the commune".
The 500 million/ha model also aims to honor and replicate typical examples of good farmers in the commune, promote family economic development and increase people's income.
Phu Duc established a model building mobilization committee, with the Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee as Head of the committee, the Chairman of the Commune Farmers' Association as Deputy Head of the committee, and members including leaders of commune unions and hamlet heads.
Propaganda and mobilization work to implement the skillful mass mobilization model of 500 million VND/ha and develop the value chain of key agricultural products of the commune have been widely implemented.

The commune's mobilization committee coordinated with Phu Duc Agricultural - Service Cooperative, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations and hamlet leaders to directly mobilize each household to plant fruit-bearing trees such as durian, rambutan, and green-skinned grapefruit.
People responded with high consensus, 77 households participated with an area of 30 hectares, reaching 100% of the plan.
According to Mr. Ha Van Phung, civil servant in charge of agriculture and environment, member of the Phu Duc Commune Mobilization Committee, at first, some people were hesitant because they did not understand the benefits of participating in the model, but after understanding, they responded enthusiastically.
The commune's advocacy committee has coordinated with relevant agencies to organize many training sessions for farmers: transferring science and technology on caring for and treating fruit trees to flower; skills in managing economically efficient production models; improving capacity to respond to climate change, using biological products in the process of caring for and developing trees; safe procedures and techniques in using pesticides, pest control, etc.
According to Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phu Duc Commune, Chau Thanh District (Ben Tre Province) Pham Hong Quang - Deputy Head of the Model Building Mobilization Board, the process of implementing the model has had the active coordination of Phu Duc Agricultural - Service Cooperative, which has supported the provision of fertilizers, pesticides and product output for farmers, contributing to increasing productivity, helping people achieve higher profits.

Currently, the model of "Mobilizing people to develop the economy to reach 500 million/ha/year in the commune" of Phu Duc commune has been recognized as a skillful mass mobilization model at the provincial level.
Up to now, 79 households in the commune have participated in the 500 million/ha model, with an area of 36.47ha out of a total of 180.65ha of durian area in the commune, reaching 121% of the set plan.
The 500 million/ha model also has 25.5 hectares of durian that meet VietGAP standards and is being replicated in the commune. In 2025, the commune will strengthen propaganda and mobilize farmers to participate in the economic development model to reach 500 million VND/ha/year with an additional area of about 30 hectares of durian.
