1. How valuable is Bich Ho abalone?
The Blue Tiger Abalone is considered the “Ariel mermaid” of the cold waters of the Southern Ocean because it possesses an extremely eye-catching emerald green shell and lives nowhere else on Earth. The pristine waters of Antarctica flow into the Australian Southern Ocean with extremely cold temperatures, along with a clean environment and pure water, which are the conditions for the Blue Tiger Abalone to grow.
The development process of Bich Ho abalone also takes a long time. It takes them 3 years to grow from 5g to 150g. Therefore, Bich Ho abalone is very valuable and rare.
For a long time, Bich Ho abalone has been officially imported from Australia to Vietnam in fresh, frozen or canned form at extremely expensive prices. However, recently, many seafood stores have been offering strong discounts on this luxury item.
A seafood store in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City is offering a 20% discount on Bich Ho abalone, the price is now just over 1.4 million VND/kg, for 7-10 pieces/kg. Thus, 1 Bich Ho abalone costs only about 150,000 VND.
According to Mr. Nam - the store's representative, the reason why abalone prices have dropped so much is because the product is now imported from many places, so the price is more competitive. This type of green abalone can be easily found in large and small seafood stores in the city, even online.

About 1-2 years ago, Bich Ho abalone created a fever among the rich when it cost up to 4.2 million VND for 7-8 pieces/kg, even the premium type of 1-2 pieces, cost up to 7 million VND/kg. But now many stores import small-sized abalone, the price is much cheaper, so it is favored by many consumers.
According to a survey, fresh Bich Ho abalone is currently sold for 1.4 - 2.2 million VND/kg for about 10 pieces/kg. Also of the same size, frozen products are packaged in beautiful 1kg boxes, used as luxurious gifts, with prices ranging from 800,000 - 1.5 million VND/kg.
Another seafood store in Da Nang is running a promotion for only 150,000 VND/set of 4 Australian Bich Ho abalone. The store said it is offering a shocking discount on this item to sell more quantity and introduce abalone to more customers.
Not only beautiful in appearance, Bich Ho abalone has outstanding meat quality, thick and firm meat, soft and smooth texture, fresh crunchiness, salty ocean taste and pearly white meat. Bich Ho abalone is best used as sashimi, because then you can feel the original flavor of this seafood.
Seeing the reasonable price, Ms. Ngoc Lien (Hanoi) also ordered Bich Ho abalone. She said: "I have never prepared abalone before, so I ordered the shop to make 2 dishes: grilled abalone with satay and abalone porridge. The meat of the abalone is chewy and crispy, the more you chew, the sweeter and softer it becomes."
It is known that every 100g of abalone provides 49mg of DHA and EPA Omega-3. Abalone helps strengthen the immune system and increase natural antibodies.
