In 2024, many military schools will reserve about 10% of their enrollment quota for admission based on academic records and 20% from the competency assessment test scores of two national universities.
At the Admissions and Career Guidance Program organized by Tuoi Tre Newspaper on January 13 in Nghe An, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Thai, Deputy Head of the Training Department, Academy of Military Science, Ministry of National Defense, said that the admission method of military schools this year has two new points.
First, schools will use the competency assessment scores of Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University. The quota for this method is about 20%.
Second is to consider academic records. Except for the Military Technical Academy and the Military Medical Academy, the remaining schools in the military will reserve about 10% to consider academic records. The required condition is that the candidate has a total score of 7 or higher in each year of high school, and the subjects in the admission combination must have a minimum score of 7.5.
The remaining three methods remain stable, including admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; admission of excellent students according to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense; and consideration of high school graduation exam scores.
Mr. Thai noted that the admission process to military schools consists of two main steps: preliminary selection and selection. Candidates need to complete the preliminary selection application at the Military Command of the district where they register their permanent residence. In this step, candidates will be pre-selected based on political background, age, and health.
Candidates are then selected according to the methods. Candidates must choose military schools in their first choice, and the following choices can be other majors and schools outside the military sector. During the registration process, candidates can adjust their preferences within the school group, but cannot transfer between two schools in different groups.

Currently, the military group consists of 17 schools.
In 2023, these schools will enroll nearly 4,400 students. Army Officer School 1 is the unit with the most enrollment (494), followed by the Military Technical Academy (458) and the Political Officer School (453). The Chemical Officer School enrolls the least (42 quotas).
The benchmark scores based on the high school graduation exam results of military schools range from 16.25 to 27.97. The Academy of Military Sciences has the highest benchmark score. Female candidates applying for the Chinese Language major must score 27.97 points based on the high school graduation exam results to be admitted. The Engineering Officer School has the lowest entrance score.
