Ha Tinh: abandoned school in Hoi Trung resettlement area
The school was built on a campus of more than 1 hectare, including 3 high-rise buildings, public housing, parking lots and other items. However, from 2013 until now (people of Huong Quang commune relocated to Hoi Trung resettlement area), the school has never opened and has been abandoned and unused. The school was abandoned, many items were damaged and seriously degraded. The wooden window frame was completely destroyed by termites. Just a slight impact and the window frame shattered, termite sawdust scattered everywhere. Glass doors are not looked after or maintained, many places are completely broken. Stair railing is damaged, separated, no longer ensuring the original structure The connection points of the wooden railings were attacked by termites, causing damage. Many locations in high-rise buildings are leaking, floor tiles are peeling off, and water is pooling. The wall was ruined, bricks and mortar were scattered everywhere. "Abandoned schools waste investment capital and land. Meanwhile, children have to go to school more than 10km away from home. It is very difficult for parents to pick up and drop off young children, especially during the rainy season," said Ms. Phan Thi Khuy in Tung Quang village, Quang Tho commune. Currently, the items of Huong Quang Secondary School continue to be damaged, degraded rapidly and show no signs of stopping. The classroom is solid but has never welcomed students or teachers to teach or study, the school has become desolate in the middle of the Hoi Trung resettlement area. "More than 1 hectare of land used to build the school has been abandoned, while children who have moved out still face difficulties in terms of residential and production land. Therefore, authorities at all levels need to inspect and have appropriate solutions to avoid wasting land and assets," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thin in Tung Quang village, Quang Tho commune. Chairman of Quang Tho Commune People's Committee Nguyen Hung Cuong said that the school was initially built to serve the learning needs of children of more than 500 households who relocated to the Hoi Trung resettlement area. However, later, due to the large number of people resettling themselves, the Hoi Trung resettlement area only had more than 180 households living there, and the school had no students, leading to abandonment. "The old Huong Quang commune, now Quang Tho commune (merged Huong Quang and Huong Tho communes at the end of 2019) is the project beneficiary. The abandoned school causes waste of investment capital and land. The locality has repeatedly petitioned and proposed to competent authorities to find a suitable solution, but there have been no results," informed Mr. Nguyen Hung Cuong.
