Quang Tri: Ship just docked, immediately collected 400 million VND

At Cua Viet fishing port (Gio Linh district), many large capacity boats have begun to set sail and stick to the sea.

Mr. Le Van Tuan (Gio Viet commune) shared that on the 4th day of Tet, his family's large-capacity fishing boat started going out to sea. While fishing about 30 nautical miles from shore, 15 nautical miles from Con Co island, his fishing boat unexpectedly hit a big catch of catfish and anchovies with a total weight of nearly 5 tons.

As soon as the ship docked, 5 tons of fish were purchased by traders for about 400 million VND.

According to this fisherman, large capacity ships like his usually have a long sea voyage. However, right at the beginning of the year, thanks to favorable weather and abundant seafood resources, not only he but also other fishermen in the area have caught large batches of fish.

Mr. Tuan earned nearly 400 million VND from catching a big haul of rafted fish and anchovies on the first day of the year.

"The first sea trip this year yielded higher yields than previous years, so we fishermen are very excited," said Mr. Tuan.

At the coastal beach of Hai An commune (Hai Lang district), fisherman Nguyen Lam said that thanks to favorable weather, many fishermen have gone to sea since the third day of Tet.

The boat of Mr. Lam's family, like those of the people in the coastal area, has a small capacity. Each trip is only a few hours but still brings in from 500,000 to 1 million VND. For fishermen in the coastal area like him, such an income is considered quite good.

Nghe An: Big catch of anchovies

Recorded on February 16 (the 7th day of Lunar New Year), at Nghi Thuy Fishing Port, Cua Lo Town, Nghe An, dozens of fishing boats went out to sea to catch seafood and earn extra income right in the first days of the new year.

Fisherman Nguyen Van Hong, captain of a boat at Nghi Thuy Port, said that the weather was sunny and nice, so on the morning of the 6th day of Tet, people held a ceremony to set sail, hoping for a year of better harvest and better economy.

Then, Mr. Hong's ship went out to sea and docked on the 7th day of Tet, bringing back more than 5 tons of various types of fish, mainly herring and mullet.

Having just had a successful fishing trip, Mr. Mai Xuan Vien, Nghi Thuy ward, Cua Lo town, also happily said that his boat had just caught more than 7 tons of anchovies. The money earned from selling the fish was 60 million VND, minus expenses, the profit was 30 million VND. Each worker on the boat earned more than 1 million.

According to many fishermen, small boats fishing less than 20 nautical miles from shore only cost about 3-4 million VND for fuel, while seafood prices in the first days of the new year remain at a good level, so people are very excited. Many fishermen can earn millions of dong after a few hours at sea at the beginning of the year.

On these trips, fishermen in Cua Lo town mainly catch anchovies, herring, shrimp, squid... Seafood is sold wholesale right on the beach, such as herring for 14,000-15,000 VND/kg, anchovies from 10,000-12,000 VND/kg.

"From January 6th until now, I have purchased about 1 ton of various types of seafood" - Ms. Duong Thi Phuong, a trader at the fishing port market in Nghi Thuy ward, said.

Talking to PV. VietNamNet, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghi Thuy Ward (Cua Lo Town) Nguyen Tien Loi said that the locality is the place with the largest fishing boats in Cua Lo town, with nearly 100 boats of all kinds, of which 38 are large and the rest are small and medium.

Small and large boats return to port after one or two days at sea, with a catch ranging from 5 to 20 tons per boat. The boat that caught the most anchovies was owned by Mr. Tran Van Luu, which was on its way to shore.

“After many years of going out to sea, fishermen in Cua Lo have just had a big anchovy season this year. The boats are still at sea, so we cannot count all the catches in the area yet,” Mr. Loi shared.
