Thanks to switching to growing ancient peach trees, on average each year Mr. Pham Truong Thanh (Group 7, Trai Cau town, Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen province) earns 400 - 500 million VND from selling and renting peach trees.
Mr. Pham Truong Thanh is a son of Thai Binh who came to Thai Nguyen to start a business. While working as a driver at Samsung, Mr. Thanh met his wife and they got married in 2010. After getting married, Mr. Thanh and his wife have lived in Thai Nguyen ever since.
Previously, Mr. Thanh’s family specialized in growing forestry seedlings. After about 5-6 years, realizing that the work was too hard, Mr. Thanh decided to find a new direction.

Advised by a friend in Cam Gia peach village, with an area of 3,600m2 of family garden land, Mr. Thanh switched to growing ornamental peach trees since 2020. Along with sharing experiences from his friend, Mr. Thanh researched, explored, and learned more about peach growing techniques on the internet.
Initially, when he first switched to making ornamental peach trees, Mr. Thanh also encountered many difficulties due to lack of experience. Because the blooming time of ornamental peach trees depends on the weather, the care process requires strictness, and must make sure the flowers bloom right on Tet holiday to be able to sell.

The peach trees in Mr. Thanh's garden are mainly peach trees that he bought from Lang Son and Son La provinces. When he moved to Thai Nguyen, the change in weather conditions from cold to hot made it difficult to take care of the peach trees.

According to Mr. Thanh, in the process of planting and caring for the tree, the most difficult step is to transfer the pot to the tree because it requires digging the soil and making the pot. This step is done around the beginning of the 8th lunar month to ensure that when the peach blossoms, the flowers will be fresh, even and beautiful.
Mr. Thanh said that for ornamental peach trees, after about 3 or 4 years, due to the barren soil, the nutrients are exhausted and need to be replaced with new soil for the peach tree to grow well. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to pests and diseases, spray pesticides periodically once a week or 10 days, do not let worms eat the top, otherwise it will take a long time to wait for new branches to grow.
Normally, in the beginning of the 11th lunar month, Mr. Thanh will proceed to place the peach embryo, then about 1 week later when the old peach root begins to sprout, he will start grafting the peach buds. When the grafted peach branch reaches a length of about 30cm, he will start bending it to shape and create the position.

The secret to getting the desired flowers is to pay attention to the time of leaf stripping so that from leaf stripping to flower blooming is about 45 days. If the flower buds are still small, you must spray bud stimulant as well as add water and fertilizer. If the weather is cold, water the tree with warm water to stimulate the flowers to bloom.
Currently, in Mr. Thanh's garden, there are about 700 ornamental peach trees, mainly ancient peach trees. "The market for my family's ornamental peach trees is mainly in Dong Hy district and some neighboring localities. Each ancient peach tree has an average selling price of about 1.3 - 1.4 million VND. Up to this point, the tree with the highest value was sold by me for 20 million VND," said Mr. Thanh.
In Mr. Thanh's garden, there are currently about 700 ancient peach trees generating an income of about 500 million VND per year. Photo: Ha Thanh
With 700 ancient peach trees, on average each year, Mr. Thanh's family earns about 500 million VND depending on the weather. Although the process of taking care of the trees is quite hard, requiring both husband and wife to be present in the garden every day, according to Mr. Thanh, since the trees have chosen people, the only way is to stick with this job with all the enthusiasm and passion. Moreover, the job of making ornamental peach trees also gives his family a relatively good income compared to the jobs he has done before.
