Growing 1 hectare of Ngoc Linh ginseng can bring in a profit of 32 billion VND

According to Kon Tum province leaders, Ngoc Linh ginseng growers can earn huge profits, up to 32 billion VND after 8 years for one hectare.

On December 10, at the Ngoc Linh ginseng development workshop held in Kon Tum, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thap - Vice Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee - said that Ngoc Linh ginseng is truly becoming one of the most valuable crops in recent years.

According to Mr. Thap, just planting 1 hectare of Ngoc Linh ginseng after 8 years of harvest can achieve a profit of over 32 billion VND.

This is considered a crop to reduce poverty for ethnic minorities and a strategic crop for investors.

Up to now, the whole Kon Tum province has about 2,922 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng, of which Tu Mo Rong district has the largest area with 2,883 hectares.

To continue expanding the scale of the growing area, Kon Tum province is implementing a center for breeding, preserving and developing medicinal herbs (60 hectares) to provide Ngoc Linh ginseng seeds to the market.

Meanwhile, Mr. Vo Trung Manh - Chairman of Tu Mo Rong District People's Committee - said that in the past 5 years, Ngoc Linh ginseng has contributed to poverty alleviation for nearly 2,000 households, helping hundreds of households become rich, with some households earning tens of billions of dong each year.

Headache with fake Ngoc Linh ginseng

Because of its great value, recently a very headache problem has arisen for both growers and consumers: traders mix fake ginseng and sell it at very high prices. The reason is that there are many other types of ginseng that look similar to Ngoc Linh ginseng, making it very difficult to identify.

Specifically, currently on the market there are many types of ginseng that have a morphology very similar to Lai Chau ginseng, Ngoc Linh ginseng such as: Lang Biang ginseng, wild ginseng, Vu Diep ginseng...

According to Professor Nguyen Minh Duc - Faculty of Pharmacy, Ton Duc Thang University - the price of Ngoc Linh ginseng on the market is hundreds of millions of dong different from some other types of ginseng.

Along with that, the situation of smuggling cheap wild ginseng with uncontrolled quality from China into Vietnam has made the ginseng market unstable, damaged the image and reputation of Ngoc Linh ginseng and caused losses to consumers.
