Practice reading quickly and accurately
The Ministry of Education and Training has announced reference questions for the High School Graduation Exam to be used from 2025 for 18 subjects with answers.
The Ministry of Education and Training said that the reference exam ensures compliance with regulations on the structure and format of the High School Graduation Exam from 2025 announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, and closely follows the 2018 General Education Program and mainly grade 12.
Compared to previous years, this year the reference exam was announced nearly 5 months earlier. The early announcement of the reference exam is considered to create favorable conditions; helping schools, teachers and students to be proactive in the process of teaching, learning and reviewing to prepare for the exam.
Among the 18 reference questions, the Literature exam attracted public attention because of the new way of making questions compared to the old program. The language materials outside of textbooks are predicted to end the situation of guessing exam questions and students will no longer memorize or study lopsidedly.
Trinh Minh Chau, a 12th grader at Nguyen Hue High School (Hanoi), said that when looking at the sample exam questions, he was most worried about the Literature subject. “Right after the sample questions were available, the teachers gave us guidance on how to study and review. The exam questions are within the knowledge we have learned in class, but it will be a challenge to get a high score,” Chau said.
Regarding the Literature subject reference exam, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Giang - teacher at Tran Quang Khai High School (Hung Yen) said that the exam has many innovations in the requirements of each part, differentiating good and excellent students, meeting the requirements of improving the quality of teaching the subject.
According to Ms. Giang, immediately after the reference exam was released, the school's Literature Group met, discussed, and made initial comments. Accordingly, the exam ensured the correct criteria for selecting materials, question matrix, and was suitable for the students' level and awareness. The change in content in the writing section contributed significantly to reducing the pressure on the first candidates taking the High School Graduation Exam under the 2018 General Education Program.
“This year, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the reference questions early, creating an advantage for the teaching and learning process. However, the amount of language in the official exam may increase compared to the reference questions. Therefore, students should pay attention to practicing the skills of reading quickly and accurately to ensure effective test-taking,” said Ms. Giang.
Be ready for any changes to the exam
This is the second time the Ministry of Education and Training has announced the reference exam questions for the High School Graduation Exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Compared to the sample exam questions announced at the end of December 2023, this reference exam questions are closer to the 12th grade program and are more concise.
With this exam, the teachers of the Hoc Mai Education System note that students need to adjust their review. They need to have a scientific review plan and roadmap to be ready for all changes in the exam, closely following the spirit of the new program to have the best preparation for the 2025 exam.
According to some high schools in Hanoi, schools have developed plans to organize teaching and review for students, preparing for the 2025 high school graduation exam according to new requirements. Principal of Ban Mai Secondary and High School Nguyen Khanh Chung said that the high school graduation exam according to the new general education program is a big challenge.
Therefore, to prepare students' mindset and knowledge, Mr. Chung said, the school has implemented a study plan and roadmap, combined with review to consolidate and improve students' knowledge, ensuring they are best prepared for the exam.
At the same time, homeroom teachers and subject teachers will always closely monitor each student to promptly support and advise on effective learning methods.
From 2025, the high school graduation exam will be held over 2 days with 3 sessions, instead of 4 sessions as before. The 2025 exam is expected to take place on June 26-27, 2025.
The biggest change in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam is that candidates will take 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and 2 elective subjects from the following subjects: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology.
With this plan, from 2025, candidates taking the high school graduation exam will have 2 subjects reduced compared to the current high school graduation exam. This is also the first time Information Technology and Technology are included as elective subjects in the high school graduation exam.
