Tran Thanh said he made it clear to avoid causing misunderstandings for the audience due to the difference in data related to the revenue of the movie "Mai".
Since its release on the occasion of Lunar New Year, the movie Mai by director Tran Thanh has always maintained its appeal at the box office and its revenue has continuously increased.
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam - an independent box office observer, as of March 1, the film Mai has surpassed the 500 billion VND mark, breaking the record of the film Nha Ba Nu, becoming the Vietnamese film with the highest box office revenue ever.

Many fans sent their congratulations to director Tran Thanh, because he is the owner of 3 movies that topped the Vietnamese box office in terms of revenue (Mai, Nha Ba Nu, Bo Gia).
However, at noon on March 2, director Tran Thanh posted on his personal Facebook, denying the information that Mai achieved a revenue of 500 billion VND.
Tran Thanh said he himself did not know the formula and statistical technology of Box Office Vietnam and thought that the numbers that this unit calculated were only "relatively correct" compared to the actual numbers and not completely accurate.
Tran Thanh emphasized: "The numbers you see on Box Office Vietnam are statistics by an independent unit, not part of the distribution system of the film Mai, so the accuracy is only relative for reference."

The actor also expressed that he clearly explained this issue to avoid causing misunderstandings for the audience when the revenue of the movie Mai that he announced was lower than the number that Box Office Vietnam counted.
Dan Tri reporter contacted the distributor of the film Mai, this unit said that according to the distributor's statistics, the film Mai is currently recorded with a revenue of 480 billion VND after 20 days of release.
Previously, speaking to Dan Tri reporters about the difference in revenue figures for the film Mai, the distributor explained: "The total amount displayed directly on Box Office Vietnam will include tickets that audiences booked in advance to watch the film on the following days.
Normally, we will count the exact number of tickets sold today at 12 noon the next day. That's why there is a difference."

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter about the data issue, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong - Founder of Box Office Vietnam - said that all data of Box Office Vietnam is collected and synthesized from public ticket sales data on domestic cinema systems.
The founder of Box Office Vietnam also admitted that Box Office Vietnam's figures are not 100% accurate with the film distributor's internal figures.
"There is never a case where a third-party measurement is 100% accurate to the internal data of the issuer. This happens in any field of statistics," he explained.
However, Mr. Duong affirmed that Box Office Vietnam's data scanning algorithm has been improved over time. According to his assessment, the error with the actual number of tickets sold is about 5%.
