"HUGE" REVENUE FROM THE BRAND
In recent years, Tran Thanh and Ly Hai seem to have become names that attract audiences to the cinema every time a new film is released. This year's Tet season, although The Four Guardians received mixed reviews, Tran Thanh is still the name that guarantees the box office when it earned more than 300 billion VND. This also shows that the name Tran Thanh in the Tet Giap Thin film season with Mai has good quality, the revenue of nearly 500 billion VND has created expectations and waiting of the audience for the next product. And up to now, this director - producer after 4 films Bo Gia, Nha Ba Nu, Mai, The Four Guardians has brought in a total revenue of nearly 1,800 billion VND, proving that Tran Thanh has affirmed his position as a "thousand-billion director" and will certainly create great attraction for viewers.

Director - producer Ly Hai also became a "best-selling brand" with the film series Lat mat , estimated to have a total revenue of over 1,200 billion VND, including 7 films spanning 10 years. If we count from Lat mat 1 with a revenue of about 72 billion VND to Lat mat 7 : Mot giau uoc with a revenue of about 459 billion VND, it can be seen that Ly Hai's film brand is increasingly asserting its position in terms of box office revenue.
That shows that Vietnamese cinema is witnessing many filmmakers making a living thanks to their names that have become "hot trends" every time a new project is released. Some other faces like Vo Thanh Hoa and soon Thu Trang, Khuong Ngoc, Hoang Nam... will certainly become "brands" if they continue to make quality films after 1-2 successful films in terms of revenue like in the past.
Talking about the brand that creates revenue for a film, director - producer Luong Dinh Dung said: "I think the brand or name of the producer - director makes the audience wait to see their film not only in Vietnam but also in the international market. However, with international brands, their products always balance quality, reputation and revenue. They understand and always aim for the highest quality film possible. In Vietnam, there are also cases where the audience's wait is due to good film promotion and communication, not because the film is truly excellent or of high quality."
AUDIENCES HAVE LITTLE CHOICE AND "CROWD TASTE"
Not to mention the quality of the films with "huge" revenue from the above-mentioned popular names, it can be seen that the audience went to the cinema partly because of curiosity, because of "crowd taste", watched the film due to the media effect, because of reading comments and controversies on social networks... Because of these factors, although The Four Guardians is considered a step back for Tran Thanh compared to previous films, it is still the product with the most impressive revenue this Tet season.

According to director Luong Dinh Dung, it is possible that the controversy surrounding the quality of the film is also part of a media campaign, making the audience curious to go to the cinema, helping the film achieve high revenue. "I think that the audience is sometimes disadvantaged because they have lost the right to watch films with guaranteed content and entertainment quality, but only go to see them because of controversy or the trend of watching films, the taste of the crowd... In the long term, in terms of sustainable development, Vietnamese films will find it difficult to reach far and internationally if revenue does not go hand in hand with quality," the director added.
According to director and producer Tran Thanh Huy, Vietnamese films have been successful recently because the number of domestic films shown in theaters is not large enough to create competition. That means that audiences do not have many choices, there are not many films of different genres to orient their tastes. If each year Vietnamese films had 100 projects released in theaters, the competition would be very high, but currently there are only about 30 - 40 films. And the names of directors who have affirmed their brands certainly have an almost absolute guarantee of revenue. They use their names to make films and attract audiences, creating large revenues is also understandable.
Sharing the same view, director Luong Dinh Dung commented: "Audiences currently have too few options to watch Vietnamese films in theaters, like "not knowing what to watch so just go to the theater to see if it's good or not" so sometimes some producers make easy products. At this time, they only require achieving revenue goals and in the long run, Vietnamese cinema will be affected. Moreover, we do not have reliable film criticism channels for audiences to have a clear view of a certain product, helping them clearly shape their tastes and movie viewing trends."
