This year, Ho Chi Minh City plans to enroll 80% of junior high school graduates into 10th grade public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year. Currently, the city has 88,772 ninth graders expected to graduate from junior high schools. Thus, high schools will enroll more than 71,000 students into 10th grade public schools.
Specifically, the expected enrollment for regular grade 10 is 67,835 students. The expected enrollment for specialized grade 10 is 2,210 students. The expected enrollment for integrated grade 10 is 735 students.
Expected by Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will officially announce the 10th grade enrollment quota for the 2025-2026 school year of each public high school this weekend.
"The determination of public grade 10 enrollment targets for the 2025-2026 school year will be balanced, calculated, and adjusted based on the number of grade 9 students in each district, in harmony with the general rate of the city.
"Where there is high pressure on students, the 10th grade quota of public high schools in that area will increase and vice versa. Where there is less pressure on 10th grade enrollment every year, the 10th grade quota this year will be stable," said a department official.
Assignment of grade 10 quotas by region
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the 10th grade quota for the 2025-2026 school year is calculated by the department to suit the reality of each district. In particular, areas such as District 12, Tan Binh, Hoc Mon District... with high student pressure will be calculated to push the public high school grade 10 quota higher than other areas, ensuring a place for students.
As for areas with stable annual school places such as Binh Chanh and Can Gio districts, the enrollment quota for grade 10 public high schools is assigned by the department according to the needs and proposals of the school.
In particular, suburban districts are building new rural areas, requiring all schools in the area to meet national standards. Therefore, there will be more control over the number of students than in other areas, so the quota for grade 10 will be calculated and adjusted accordingly.
