Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) has implemented a plan to turn Vietnam's railway into the longest flower road in Vietnam in the future, through planting and caring for flowers typical of the three regions on railway lines, at stations, and units in this industry...
In May, the famous international travel website Lonely Planet named Vietnam's Thong Nhat Railway (North-South Railway) in first place among the 9 most spectacular train journeys in the world.
The North-South railway running through Ho Chi Minh City is about 14 km long, passing through districts 3, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc City. Since April, VNR has held a signing ceremony to launch the model "Safe, clean, green and environmentally friendly railway corridor" to launch the "Train - Flower Street" movement in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Department of Construction, the railway sector has proactively coordinated with districts in the city to sign a joint agreement, clean up, remove weeds, debris, and plant trees and ornamental flowers on the railway section passing through Binh Thanh and Phu Nhuan districts. District 3 has an implementation plan and Thu Duc City has also conducted a field survey to agree on a coordination plan.
To support VNR in turning the idea into reality, the Department of Construction proposed that the City People's Committee issue a document directing localities and functional units to coordinate in cleaning and transporting garbage and debris north of Saigon Station in Ward 11, District 3 (about 200m) that people have dumped onto the railway, accumulating over many years. After cleaning and having a flat surface, the railway units and Ward 11 People's Committee will create green areas, together committing to care for and protect the clean, green environment, without re-pollution.
At the same time, the City People's Committee supported 300 ornamental Lagerstroemia trees to be planted in the vacant land between the railway fence and the sidewalk of Pham Van Dong Street; considered and supported resources to build the most beautiful flower route through Phu Nhuan District as a typical image for the movement within Ho Chi Minh City.
The Department of Construction also proposed that the City People's Committee assign the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with the People's Committees of localities where railway lines pass through to support the railway unit in selecting and providing flower varieties suitable for the city's climate and soil conditions; provide guidance on care methods and prescribe protective measures for flower plants to grow smoothly.
The Department of Tourism, through tourism programs and tours to the city, also needs to promote the image of "Train Road - Flower Road" to residents and tourists.
Mr. Dang Sy Manh - General Director of VNR expects: "Through the train window, passengers can see peach buds in the North, see brilliant bougainvillea clusters in the Central region and yellow apricot branches in the South... throughout the four seasons. We strive to turn Vietnam's railway into a flower route; build a friendly railway brand to attract tourists".
