On the afternoon of April 1, at the Conference to meet and listen to tourism businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa - Director of the City Department of Tourism - said that in order to diversify tourism products and promote the night economy, the City Department of Tourism is studying a plan to pilot opening some museums at night.

According to Ms. Anh Hoa, this project will combine cultural performances, including Ao Dai performances and traditional art activities, to create unique experiences for tourists.

Developing night tourism products not only helps increase the length of stay and spending of tourists but also contributes to enhancing the value of cultural heritage. This is also part of the city's overall strategy to expand the night-time economic ecosystem, promote related service industries and enhance the competitiveness of Ho Chi Minh City as a destination on the international tourism map.

"The Department and related agencies are actively promoting the night economy, especially exploiting riverside night product routes and exploiting waterway tourism," said Ms. Hoa.

According to Ms. Hoa, in a recent meeting with city leaders, the Department of Tourism continued to propose speeding up the exploitation of areas along the Saigon River, contributing to creating more night tourism products, especially riverside walking routes.

Ms. Hoa said the Department of Transport has agreed with the proposal and is considering suitable investment options.

At the same time, the issue of environmental sanitation on canals is also raised, with a plan to coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to handle waste, creating a clean and beautiful space for tourists.

In addition, regarding the issue of environmental sanitation on canals, the Department of Tourism has also proposed that the People's Committee of District 1 handle the waste situation on the canals and will coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to find more fundamental solutions.

Ms. Hoa emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is building a long-term strategy for developing waterway tourism, including expanding river tourism routes connecting to Cu Chi and neighboring areas. Along with that, the tourism industry will launch a communication campaign to promote Ho Chi Minh City's tourism brand, increasing the attraction of domestic and foreign tourists.

In addition, exploiting cultural and heritage values is also a priority in the tourism product development strategy. The Department of Tourism is coordinating with relevant units to organize more traditional art performances within the framework of major tourism events.

Some notable initiatives include bringing the art of hát bội into the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival or organizing Ao Dai performances at museums.

The director of the department said that the sustainable development of tourism in Ho Chi Minh City depends not only on promotional campaigns but also on the consensus of the business community.

Ho Chi Minh City is aiming for a comprehensive night-time economic development strategy, combining waterway tourism, culture - art and riverside walking streets, helping to increase tourism attraction and prolong visitors' stay.

Businesses promote tourism in Ho Chi Minh City

The city is also calling on tourism businesses to actively participate in the promotional campaign, from using the Ho Chi Minh City tourism brand logo in business activities to improving service quality, better meeting the needs of tourists.

In 2025, the Department of Tourism will continue to accompany businesses, promote stimulus programs, improve destination quality, and complete targets, including: welcoming 8.5 million international visitors, 45 million domestic visitors and revenue of VND 260,000 billion.
