Ho Chi Minh City: Proposal to enroll 10th grade students in 2 phases, exam expected to take place on June 6 and 7

According to the proposal, the 10th grade enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will be carried out in 2 phases.

Phase 1 : Students register for 3 priority wishes 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam to grade 10 of public high schools (except Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and High School for the Gifted under Ho Chi Minh City National University).

Phase 2 : Depending on the application status at high schools, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will decide on additional enrollment. This decision is to ensure the rights of candidates with high 10th grade admission scores; to recruit enough students for schools that are lacking many students.

However, the department's report also noted that students should choose to register for grade 10 admission near their place of residence to avoid the case of being admitted but not submitting the application.

In addition, students are not allowed to change their preferences after the time allowed for adjusting preferences and after the admission results are available.

According to the report, the department also proposed a 10th grade entrance exam for candidates who wish to enroll in public high schools. For candidates who graduated from junior high school in Thanh An island commune, Can Gio district, the 10th grade entrance exam will be conducted.

Candidates for public grade 10 are students graduating from junior high school in the 2023-2024 school year in Ho Chi Minh City within the prescribed age.

The 10th grade entrance exam is expected to take place on June 6 and 7, 2024.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training proposed to the City People's Committee that the 10th grade entrance exam date is expected to be June 6 and 7, 2024.

Candidates will take 3 essay tests including literature, math and foreign language (foreign language 1 being studied at school). Of which, literature and math have 120 minutes/test time, foreign language: 90 minutes.

The 10th grade admission score is the total score of the three exams and additional points for priority subjects, if any. Successful candidates must take all three exams and not have a score of 0 in any exam.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the department will base on the quota, number of candidates registered in the wishes and total score of 3 exams to review and announce the standard score of each school according to the following principles:

The benchmark score for choice 2 is not lower than the benchmark score for choice 1; the benchmark score for choice 3 is not lower than the benchmark score for choice 2. In some cases, the benchmark scores between the 3 choices may be equal depending on the number of candidates registering for each choice.
