The concept pickup truck can change into many different shapes, expected to be produced in Indonesia.
Launched at the Gaikindo International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Indonesia last week, the Rangga concept looks quite familiar as it is a slightly modified version of the IMV 0 concept that was introduced in Thailand in December 2022.
The idea behind the concept is to offer customers a platform that can be customized to suit their needs. At GIIAS 2023, Toyota showed off several versions of the Rangga, including a mobile coffee shop, an ambulance, a service vehicle for electric cars, and even a race safety car.
Toyota has not yet released the specifications of the Rangga, nor detailed dimensions. According to the image, the pickup truck may be in the small-sized segment.
Toyota also held a design contest in Indonesia, attracting entries with a variety of Rangga concepts, including a camper and a drift car. The winner will receive a prize of about $6,500.
The name Rangga is inspired by the Javanese word "Ronggo", which means a hero and represents strength and endurance.
The Toyota Rangga is expected to go into commercial production and could go on sale from late 2023 or early 2024, with the launch market said to be Thailand before it reaches Indonesia and other regions. The price of the new pickup will be lower than the Hilux, and will be around 13,100-19,600 USD.
