Accordingly, the province's economy has shifted in the right direction, with growth improving year by year. The province's agricultural sector continues to promote its strengths, effectively restructure with the value chain of key industries being expanded and promoted, taking the lead in the province's digital transformation group, effectively combining agriculture - tourism - trade, and the agricultural economic mindset gradually taking shape to replace the agricultural production mindset in the majority of farmers in the province.

The rice industry plays a leading role, especially in export. In 2024, rice will become the industry with the highest export turnover for the first time. The ornamental flower industry develops diverse types, meeting market demand, supplying goods for the whole country and for export. The lotus industry is cultivated in a sustainable direction, diversifying processed products.

In the past time, Dong Thap province has deployed 161,000 hectares to participate in the implementation of the project of one million hectares of high-quality rice, reducing emissions and is building a master plan; building Dong Thap into a pioneering and model province in ecological agriculture, modern countryside, and civilized farmers. It is expected that by the end of 2024, the province will have 621 OCOP products, ranking first in the Mekong Delta and third in the country.

To promote socio-economic development in the province, Dong Thap proposed to the Central Government to support and create favorable conditions for the province to build the "Dong Thap Muoi Freshwater Aquatic and Agricultural Products Center" in Dong Thap province. This is the content mentioned in Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

General Secretary To Lam gave a directive speech at the working session.

The province also proposed to agree in principle and soon allocate capital to build a new Dong Thap Muoi Museum at Go Thap Relic Site; agree in principle to establish a Specialized Economic Zone, with a scale of 5,000 hectares or more in Dong Thap Province's Border Gate Economic Zone with special incentive mechanisms and policies to stimulate and attract large and strategic partners and investors to develop the province's border economic area...

Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the remarkable development, especially in the agricultural sector of Dong Thap, and acknowledged the efforts of the Party Committee, government and people of all walks of life in the province in recent times.

The General Secretary emphasized that the results achieved were encouraging, but Dong Thap is a border province with great potential advantages in international trade. Therefore, Dong Thap must fully identify and from there focus on promoting all sectors, especially trade, industry, etc.

The General Secretary suggested that Dong Thap province needs to mobilize all resources and unique strengths to make a breakthrough, contributing positively to the overall development of the Mekong Delta and the country. By 2030, Dong Thap province must develop into a leading group in the Mekong Delta in building ecological agriculture, modern countryside, civilized farmers; sustainably develop the agricultural sector to support the economy. With a vision to 2050, Dong Thap will become a pioneer province in innovation and economic restructuring towards modernization, opening up opportunities for new economic sectors such as: ecological economy, freshwater economy, adaptive agriculture, multimodal transport, health care, etc.

"The province needs to focus on investing in education and training; combining local resources with advanced technology, knowledge and management to bring Dong Thap's economy to higher levels of the value chain" - the General Secretary directed.

On the same morning, General Secretary To Lam and the Central working delegation visited the Mausoleum of Vice President Nguyen Sinh Sac in Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap Province.
