General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's official visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1973 - 2023).

The General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam and Australia are two countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with many similarities. Their relationship has gone through many periods of development over the past 50 years, expanding and deepening in many fields, especially in people-to-people exchanges and relations, with over 300,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Australia.
With those important foundations and great potential for cooperation, the relationship between the two countries has good prospects for development in the coming time.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong also highly appreciated the results of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s visit, especially through the Prime Minister’s talks and meetings with Vietnamese leaders and the important agreements reached between the two countries during the visit. The General Secretary also expressed his agreement on the directions for developing relations, including bringing the bilateral relationship to a new height, further cooperation and improving the effectiveness of implementing agreements for the benefit of the two peoples, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed Australia's respect for the role, position and relationship with Vietnam, congratulated Vietnam on the positive and great changes during his visits and expressed his joy at the impressive development achievements of the two countries' relationship, which is now a strategic partnership.

The Australian Prime Minister expressed his confidence in the development prospects of Vietnam-Australia relations and wished to elevate the relationship between the two countries to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The Prime Minister affirmed Australia's view on the importance of strengthening a peaceful and stable environment in the region, respecting international law, independence and sovereignty of nations, equal relations and supporting the central role of ASEAN. The Australian Government's policy and the Labor Party's traditional line are to attach importance to promoting relations with Southeast Asian countries.
