On November 17, the Ministry of Education and Training hosted the 16th People's Teacher and Excellent Teacher award ceremony and honored outstanding teachers in 2024. The outstanding teachers honored on this occasion were not only for their teaching achievements but also for their role models in volunteer activities and community service.

Speaking on behalf of the honored teachers at the ceremony, Ms. Vu Thi Hanh, Vice Principal of Chu Van An High School (Yen Bai), said that since she was a child, she dreamed of standing on the podium. After graduating from high school, while her friends chose medicine, commerce, foreign trade, etc., Ms. Hanh chose to take the entrance exam to Hanoi National University of Education. Since becoming a teacher, she has always kept in mind Uncle Ho's simple teaching: "Teachers must find a way to teach. What to teach, how to teach so that students understand quickly, remember for a long time, and progress quickly."
Therefore, in each lesson, Ms. Hanh invests in research to find a suitable teaching method with the principle: in each lesson, knowledge must be condensed, focused, not spread out. Maximizing the positivity of students so that they can explore and discover knowledge themselves will remember it for a long time. Besides, learning must go hand in hand with practice, linking theory with real life, will make students see the meaning of each subject.
As for Mr. Hoang Thanh Tung, a teacher at Hoa Cuc Trang Kindergarten (Ea Dah Commune, Krong Nang District, Dak Lak), working in a particularly difficult area, he and his colleagues went to each household to encourage their children to go to school. As a result, the school mobilized 98% of children of the right age to go to class. The rate of 5-year-old children was 100%, maintaining a student population of 100%. Although he is a rare male teacher in preschool education, Mr. Tung has always achieved the title of excellent teacher because he always cares about and improves the quality of child care; contributing to reducing the rate of malnourished and stunted children to the lowest level, preventing accidents and injuries to children. He also applies information technology in teaching, actively makes tools and toys, and constantly innovates child-centered methods to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
Teacher Dao Thi Hue, Hai Phong School for the Blind, has worked for 14 years at a school for the blind, has made many contributions and is one of the first teachers to teach in classes for students with intellectual disabilities in a special school in Hai Phong. During her work, Ms. Hue has helped many disabled students progress, gain independent living skills, and integrate into the community. For many years, Ms. Hue has participated in guiding groups of students practicing special education with high efficiency. Ms. Hue also participates in an early intervention group for blind children, visiting families with blind children in all districts of the city to intervene at home for children and instruct parents on how to care for and educate blind children at home. Also from this support program, many blind children are able to go to school.
Ms. Vu Thi Ngoc Bich, Principal of TT.Thang Primary School (Hiep Hoa District, Bac Giang), was honored for being a leader who dares to think and dares to do for the comprehensive development of students. Thanks to her good work in mass mobilization, she has contributed to the site clearance to complete the stadium for students with an area of 4,000 m2; built a school garden for students to experience practice with an area of 300 m2; re-tiled the classroom floors, painted all classrooms, functional rooms, and boarding rooms; built a permanent swimming pool with an area of over 200 m2 with a roof, with a system of shower rooms and modern toilets.
Many teachers were honored at the ceremony not only for their achievements in professional work but also for their respect in community activities. Ms. Bui Thi Thuy, Hai Ninh 2 Primary School (Bac Binh District, Binh Thuan) has participated in mobilizing to support poor, disabled, single-parent families, and policy families for the past 5 years with more than 639 million VND; 2 charity houses worth more than 250 million VND; proactively advising the Youth Union at all levels to propagate and open skill training classes for more than 105 children in the district.
Similarly, Ms. Le Thi Nga, Tinh Ha Primary School (Son Tinh District, Quang Ngai), not only has a provincial initiative to improve the quality of teaching but also participates in many volunteer activities in the area: cooking rice to serve citizens in quarantine at the school (during the Covid-19 epidemic); donating charity porridge to children and lonely elderly people at their residence, calling on benefactors to be godmothers for 2 orphans in Tinh Phong commune, each child receives 400,000 VND/month until they are 18 years old; coordinating with the school's Youth Union to call for support for 1 orphaned student of the school with an amount of 55 million VND...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Duyen, a teacher at Le Van Tam Primary School, Tan Phu District (HCMC), shared that being honored as an outstanding teacher by the Ministry of Education and Training was not only a personal joy for her, but also aroused in her a deep pride in the nation's tradition of "respecting teachers"; helping her understand that the role of a teacher does not stop at teaching but also has the mission of inspiring, spreading humanistic values and contributing to building the future of the country.
Hope teachers "overcome their own limits"
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training, acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of teachers to the education sector, the country's science and innovation career, and affirmed: "The Ministry of Education and Training is determined to build the Teachers Law so that teachers can receive the law with a "truly excited, truly honored" attitude as the General Secretary said."
According to the head of the education and training sector: "Education is a difficult task, true education, education with the right morals, education towards high quality, attracting learners, spreading the spirit of creativity and endless inspiration for learning for learners is even more difficult. To achieve the title of People's Teacher, Excellent Teacher, and Outstanding Teacher, teachers have been dedicated and loved their profession, have made many contributions, overcome difficulties and challenges to express themselves and spread good values".
Minister Nguyen Kim Son mentioned the major tasks that the education and training sector must focus on implementing in the coming time, and at the same time pointed out the fact that the education sector and the teaching staff always receive great attention and expectations from the Party, the State and the people. "To successfully carry out major tasks, the entire education sector must be very determined and must meet many necessary conditions. In particular, the human factor, typically teachers and educational managers, plays a particularly important role. People's Teachers, Excellent Teachers, and Outstanding Teachers will be the core to best promote their own experience, intelligence, determination and creativity, while sharing, spreading, inspiring positivity, and replicating good things to the community of teachers," he emphasized.
Recalling the old saying: "Ginger gets spicier with time, teachers get better with age", the head of the education sector expressed his wish that teachers continue to "overcome their own limits to best promote their excellence".
This year, the President awarded the title of People's Teacher to 21 teachers and the title of Excellent Teacher to 1,167 teachers. The Ministry of Education and Training selected 251 outstanding teachers. The selected teachers all have outstanding achievements in teaching, training, education, management, are dedicated and devoted to their profession, have professional prestige, and have widespread influence in the industry, field or district and provincial levels.
