Returning from Egypt after winning the Miss Intercontinental 2023 runner-up title, 20-year-old Le Nguyen Ngoc Hang had a rather open conversation with Giao Thong Newspaper.

Does Le Nguyen Ngoc Hang regret only winning 2nd runner-up at Miss Intercontinental 2023?

Before I entered the competition, everyone had high expectations for me to win. However, I saw this as a huge challenge, because Vietnam already had a crown from Ms. Bao Ngoc in 2022.

So, when I entered the competition, I just tried my best and didn't put pressure on myself. If I said I did everything well, it would seem immodest.

But I really think I did well. The important thing is that I tried my best and have no regrets. Second runner-up was the right position for me at that time.

At the contest, did Miss Bao Ngoc support you a lot?

Before coming to the contest, I talked with Ms. Bao Ngoc with the hope of showing my best and most professional performance.

In India, I was a contestant and Ms. Bao Ngoc was a judge, so we limited contact and always kept our distance to avoid misunderstandings.

I want to be like other candidates, competing with my own ability, not with outside help.

In your opinion, is the title given to Thailand's representative Chatnalin Chotjirawarachat worthy?

For me, any contestant in the Top 7 can become a beauty queen, but the most important thing is that each contest will have different criteria and the organizers themselves want to find what kind of person.

Therefore, the issues of skills, behavior or performance of Miss Thailand may not be suitable for some audiences but are suitable for the judges' criteria.

Personally, I think the Thai representative is a strong candidate since entering the competition. This has been proven in almost all rankings.

She has a beautiful appearance, very good skills. Besides, she uses English well, has the ability to communicate with everyone, the ability to connect with all the other contestants. Therefore, when she was announced as Miss, I was not surprised at all.

This competition has a slightly different criterion than other competitions, which is that each continent will have to choose one person to be able to enter the Top 7.

So my first goal was to win my continent (Asia) first. Luckily, Thailand was chosen as the winner of the Power of Beauty award and I won Asia.

Want to focus on studying

At the contest, which contestant outside the Top 7 did you appreciate?

Representatives from the Czech Republic, Serbia, Canada or Puerto Rico are all very strong… It's a shame that they didn't make it to the Top 7.

Besides, the Cuban representative is very energetic, knows 3 languages, has good performances but still stops before Top 7.

Leaving the beauty pageant and returning to Ho Chi Minh City, what was the first thing you did?

Having just been crowned 2nd Runner-up, ideas were popping up in my head and I wanted to start carrying out the next missions, but my eyes kept narrowing.

My body wants me to rest so the first thing I do is get a good night's sleep.

Spending so much time on international beauty pageants, does your studies get affected?

Actually, I still went to school as usual. The time I went to the Miss Intercontinental contest coincided with the end of the school term.

I also anticipated that I might not be able to return on time on the exam day, so I asked the school for permission to postpone the exam and received support from the school.

Besides doing art, I also want to do business. My parents don't put too much pressure on me about studying. Currently, school hasn't started the second semester yet.

In the next stage, I will start to focus on studying because the second semester score will be used as the graduation score and this stage will be very heavy studying.

How did your parents feel when they learned that their daughter was the 2nd runner-up of Miss Intercontinental 2023?

My mother often called me while I was in Egypt to ask how the food was and if there were any problems.

My parents are mainly concerned about my health, whether I achieve a title or not is not too important to them.

After I won the runner-up title, my mother texted me, "Congratulations!" I said, "Mom, I'm so happy, I'm the international runner-up!" I knew my parents were proud, but they didn't show it too much.

Le Nguyen Ngoc Hang was born in 2003 in Ho Chi Minh City. She is a former student of Trung Vuong High School and is currently a student at Western Sydney University in Australia.
