On the morning of November 18, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Hanoi), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Nghe An province to organize an exhibition of agricultural products - OCOP and a seminar on "Strategic orientation for socio-economic development in Western Nghe An".

With a very large area covering 13.7 million km², the total population of the region is about 1.237 million people, including many ethnic minorities such as Thai, Tho, Kho Mu, Mong, Dan Lai, O Du, Kinh..., Western Nghe An is a particularly important strategic area in terms of socio-economics, national defense and security of the North Central region and the whole country.

This place also plays a decisive role in the ecological environment of Nghe An province, with potential and advantages for developing agriculture, forestry, hydropower, mining, tourism and border economic development.

Resolution 39 of the Politburo on building and developing Nghe An province to 2030 and vision to 2045 clearly states: “Rapid and sustainable development of the Western region on the basis of maximizing potentials and advantages, especially advantages in forest economy, forest canopy economy, border gate economy, historical and cultural resources; increasing resilience in natural disaster prevention and response to climate change”.

However, according to Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy, Western Nghe An is an area with many economic difficulties, slow development, small production scale, low connectivity, and has not effectively promoted economic infrastructure from its outstanding potential strengths.

The Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee said that the locality is focusing on reviewing, building, supplementing mechanisms, policies and financial resources for development and promoting administrative reform, creating a favorable investment and business environment to attract investment.

In particular, focusing investment resources to form and develop 3 economic corridors associated with the Western Nghe An region, including: Ho Chi Minh Road economic corridor, National Highway 7 economic corridor, National Highway 48A economic corridor; focusing on developing high-tech agriculture, agricultural and forestry processing industry, construction materials; developing types of eco-tourism, adventure, community tourism; developing forestry, forest economy, economy under forest canopy, medicinal herbs, high-tech agriculture associated with processing industry...

Speaking at the seminar, Minister Le Minh Hoan said that through discussions with key leaders of Nghe An province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will choose Western Nghe An to pilot projects that the ministry has submitted to the Central and the Government to have an integrated view of multi-level values ​​for the agricultural sector in Western Nghe An.
