The school leaders said that the funds have not yet been transferred to the school's account. According to the plan, the school will put this money into the unit's revenue and can use it to pay salaries for staff and lecturers.
Regarding the remaining lecturer salary arrears, the school is waiting for the Standing Committee of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee to agree on a plan to temporarily postpone the deduction of the school's annual budget for 2023 and the period 2023 - 2025, in order to create a source to pay salaries for staff and lecturers.
Mr. Huynh Tan Tuan, Principal of Quang Nam Medical College, said that the more than 1.2 billion VND allocated by the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee this time will be used by the school to pay salaries for the school's lecturers, first paying 1 month's salary, the rest will be paid for insurance. The school continues to wait for the province's funding support, then pay the remaining salary owed to the employees.
According to Mr. Tuan, after receiving information that staff and lecturers would collectively stop working due to prolonged salary arrears, the school's leaders held a meeting with staff, lecturers and all employees to find a solution to this situation.
The majority of cadres and lecturers agreed to continue working until December 31, waiting for support from the Provincial People's Committee to have funds to pay salaries. Currently, the Provincial People's Committee Party Committee has also submitted and is waiting for the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee to meet to have instructions to resolve this prolonged salary arrears situation.
As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, on December 14, 17 staff and lecturers of Quang Nam Medical College sent a notice of collective resignation to the school's leadership.
In the announcement, 17 staff and lecturers of the Nursing and Basic Health Departments said they would stop working from December 18 until the school resolved the salary and allowance regime. After that, after discussions at meetings, the leave period was extended to December 31.
According to the lecturers, the school has not paid their salaries and allowances for 6 months, from July 2023 to present. The staff and lecturers still try to go to class because they do not want to affect the students' studies. However, due to the long period of unpaid salaries, the lives of many staff and lecturers have fallen into a very difficult situation and they cannot continue working.
As of now, Quang Nam Medical College owes 6 months of salary to 114 employees, with a total amount of more than 5.7 billion VND. In addition, this unit has been late in paying insurance for many months.
