Review of steel price situation today April 18, 2025 in domestic market

Steel prices on April 18, 2025 in the Vietnamese market continued to maintain stability in all three regions of the North, Central and South, without recording significant fluctuations compared to previous trading sessions. The sideways price trend reflects that domestic steel consumption demand is at a balanced level, with major brands such as Hoa Phat , Viet Duc, VAS, Viet Sing and Tung Ho keeping stable prices for CB240 coil steel and D10 CB300 rebar. Below is a detailed analysis of steel price data and the significance of this trend.

In the North, steel prices of major brands fluctuated within a narrow range, indicating that the construction market in this region is maintaining a stable pace. Hoa Phat, one of the leading steel suppliers, recorded CB240 coil prices at VND13,530/kg and D10 CB300 ribbed steel at VND13,580/kg. Viet Duc had a slightly lower price with CB240 at VND13,430/kg, but D10 CB300 was slightly higher at VND13,740/kg. Meanwhile, VAS and Viet Sing kept competitive prices, with CB240 at VND13,400/kg and VND13,330/kg, respectively, while D10 CB300 ranged from VND13,450/kg to VND13,530/kg. This price level shows that manufacturers are being cautious, avoiding strong price adjustments in the context of construction demand showing no signs of breakthrough growth.

In the Central region, Viet Duc continues to be a typical brand with higher steel prices than in the North. CB240 coil steel was recorded at VND13,840/kg, while D10 CB300 ribbed steel reached VND14,140/kg. This higher price may reflect transportation and logistics costs in the region, along with construction demand in the Central provinces remaining stable. However, the lack of price fluctuations shows that the market is still waiting for clearer signals from public investment or civil construction projects.

In the South, Tung Ho brand in Ho Chi Minh City quoted CB240 steel coil at VND13,400/kg and D10 CB300 steel bar at VND13,750/kg. This price is relatively similar to brands in the North, showing the uniformity in steel price trends nationwide. The South, which is an area with many large construction projects, is maintaining stable steel demand, but there is no strong enough factor to push prices up in the short term.

According to experts, the stable steel price on April 18, 2025 is the result of the balance between domestic supply and demand. Current steel demand mainly comes from civil construction projects and some infrastructure projects, but there has been no breakthrough due to the lack of economic stimulus packages or large-scale public investment projects. In the international market, steel prices are also under pressure from trade tensions and uneven consumption demand, especially in China - the world's largest steel producing country. This makes domestic steel producers prioritize keeping prices stable to maintain market share and ensure competitiveness.

Looking ahead, steel prices on April 18, 2025 may continue to move sideways in the short term, unless factors such as a surge in public investment, government economic stimulus policies, or strong fluctuations in steel raw material prices on the global market emerge. Contractors and investors are advised to closely monitor information on steel prices and economic policies to have appropriate material procurement plans. At current prices, this is a favorable time for construction projects to maintain progress without being pressured by steel price fluctuations.

Steel price today April 18, 2025 on the world market

In the international market, steel prices on April 18, 2025 recorded slight fluctuations, with a downward trend dominating. On the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the May rebar futures price fell 0.46% to 3,034 yuan/ton, equivalent to about 416 USD/ton. Iron ore prices also adjusted slightly, with the Dalian Stock Exchange falling 0.2% to 762 yuan/ton and the Singapore Stock Exchange falling 0.52 USD to 98.71 USD/ton. Spot rebar prices in China fell 12 USD/ton in the first 10 days of April, mainly due to the gloomy outlook for the real estate industry. According to Fitch's forecast, new home sales in China could fall 10% in 2025, leading to a serious weakening of steel demand, especially as the construction industry accounts for a large proportion of steel consumption in this country.

The decline in steel demand in China, combined with the US-China trade tensions that show no signs of abating, is making investors and businesses skeptical about the possibility of a short-term recovery in the steel market. China, which produces more than half of the world's steel, is a key factor affecting global steel and iron ore prices. The slight decline in iron ore prices on the Dalian and Singapore exchanges, along with high iron ore inventories at Chinese ports, shows that oversupply pressure is still present, limiting the possibility of steel price increases.

In that context, steel prices on April 18, 2025 in Vietnam benefit from domestic stability, but are also indirectly affected by the Chinese market. Experts say that domestic steel prices may continue to move sideways in the coming weeks, unless there are economic stimulus policies or large-scale public investment projects implemented. In addition, if international trade tensions escalate or steel raw material prices on the global market fluctuate sharply, domestic steel prices may also be affected. For contractors and investors, this is a good time to plan for purchasing construction materials, taking advantage of stable prices before the market may experience fluctuations from external factors.

In India, rebar prices were steady at $668/mt (EXW Mumbai), up $12/mt since early April on expectations of the government’s $130.6 billion public investment package for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. The package is fueling positive sentiment in the construction and metals sectors, keeping steel prices high and providing incentives for producers. In contrast, in Italy, steel prices rose by €20/mt to $585/mt, but demand remained sluggish due to the Easter holiday, leaving steel deals below expectations. In Turkey, rebar offers fell by $14/mt to $558/mt (FOB) due to stiff competition from cheap Algerian and Egyptian steel, making it difficult for Turkish goods to sell in southern Europe.
