Joy in the new home

Ms. Le Thi Nghia (Danh Son village, Tam Son) is a poor household, her life is difficult so she cannot afford to repair her dilapidated house. In 2024, the People's Committee of Tam Son commune surveyed and unanimously called on benefactors to support Ms. Nghia in building a solidarity house.

"Thanks to the government and philanthropists, last February I had a new, solid house. I no longer have to worry about storms and rain, and I can live in peace," said Ms. Nghia.

Vice Chairman of Tam Son Commune People's Committee - Mai Van Chuc said that identifying the elimination of temporary houses as a very important policy, the locality has deployed a specific plan to the people. Policy propaganda work is carried out in many forms suitable to local conditions.

At the same time, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and associations and unions mobilized villages, solidarity groups, and association members to help dismantle houses, dig foundations, and transport materials...

In particular, Tam Son has made efforts to mobilize funds from benefactors to support households in difficult circumstances. From 2023 to 2025, 115 million VND was mobilized to support 4 households.

“In addition to implementing policies to the people and ensuring the implementation process, the Commune People's Committee has mobilized all resources from financial support, labor, support for demolishing old houses, support for materials... so that households can benefit from the program.

In particular, priority is given to single households, the elderly, families with meritorious services, etc. who have the conditions to build and repair houses," said Mr. Mai Van Chuc.

Not only the government but also associations and organizations of Nui Thanh have stepped up the work of eliminating temporary houses. Mr. Pham Van Quyen - Chairman of the Nui Thanh Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin said that in the past 10 years, to give victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin a chance to rise up and have better living conditions, the Nui Thanh District Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin has mobilized from fellow countrymen in Ho Chi Minh City, the South and many other sources with an amount of about 10 billion VND.

From this funding source, the association prioritizes the work of eliminating temporary houses, and has so far built 10 houses for members. And in 2024 alone, it subsidized the construction of 2 houses with a total amount of more than 143 million VND, of which the association's funding was more than 110 million VND. The support for housing and livelihoods has helped the families of victims and members have enough conditions to do business and improve their lives.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh (Tho Khuong village, Tam Hiep) said: “My son and I are both victims of Agent Orange exposure, so our lives are very difficult. Fortunately, the Nui Thanh Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin has supported my family with breeding pigs and built a spacious house. With this support, we will try to escape poverty and have enough strength to build a prosperous family.”

Urgent completion before June 2025

According to the People's Committee of Tam Son commune, the locality has approved 29 houses in the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in 2024 and 2025. Up to now, 27 houses of the 2024 plan have been completed and put into use, 2 houses implemented in 2025 have had their foundations broken for 1 house, expected to be completed as committed by April 30, and 1 house will be under construction on April 22, expected to be completed on May 25.

"Currently, Tam Son still has 2 cases of problems arising from poor households and land records that are not secured, so the People's Committee of Tam Son commune requests the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses of the District to consider supporting funding for housing construction and repair to soon stabilize the lives of these cases and help the locality complete the goal of eliminating 100% of temporary houses according to the plan set for June 30" - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Son commune Mai Van Chuc said.

Due to the urgent implementation time of only 3 months, the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district will assign specific tasks to each member of the steering committee to supervise and monitor the implementation progress in the communes. At the same time, organize a meeting with the communes and towns to promptly urge, grasp the situation, and strengthen the inspection and supervision of the implementation progress in the localities.

“We have organized a conference to deploy and direct the People's Committees of the communes to focus on implementation and complete before June 30. The communes have a plan to deploy to related households, according to the expected implementation time in 2025 with a total estimated cost of about 1.5 billion VND” - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district - Ngo Duc An said.

According to Mr. An, some households have submitted applications and have been approved by the District People's Committee, but have encountered some difficulties in health, funding sources, etc., so they have not been able to implement them. Localities will mobilize and propagate for households to implement according to the set schedule. At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee is requested to promptly arrange and allocate funding sources to support housing improvement for meritorious people according to Decision No. 21/2024/QD-TTg.

According to the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district, based on Resolution No. 13 of the People's Council of Quang Nam province, Nui Thanh was approved for 158 houses, with a total support capital of more than 8.3 billion VND. To date, 132 houses have been completed, including 39 newly built houses and 93 repaired houses. And the implementation plan in 3 months is 18 houses, specifically 2 houses in March, 9 houses in April and 7 houses in May.
