Vietnam has great potential to become a quality destination, welcoming high-class delegations.

In recent years, the positioning of Vietnam's tourism brand has gradually changed from low-cost tourism to high-class, quality destinations. Many billionaires and high-spending tourists choose to organize important events. Most recently, at the end of August 2024, an Indian pharmaceutical billionaire chose Hanoi, Ha Long (Quang Ninh), and Ninh Binh as the places to spend the entire vacation for his 4,500 employees.

Tourism is also gradually recovering and making progress in both quality and quantity. According to tourism statistics for the first 9 months of the year, the encouraging figure is that we have welcomed 12.7 million international tourists, an increase of 43% over the same period. Vietnam is very close to the target of 17-18 million international visitors in 2024.

That is a bright spot for Vietnamese tourism after the pandemic, however, the number of high-spending visitors to Vietnam is still quite modest. Therefore, it is necessary to find tourism products for high-end tourists to Vietnam.

At the workshop, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that tourism is a comprehensive economic sector, interdisciplinary, inter-regional and highly socialized. Doing tourism is the responsibility of society, in which the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Tourism Administration have a leading role, creating the best conditions to gather people who want to develop Vietnam's tourism industry into a spearhead economic sector.

According to Deputy Minister Ho An Phong, the statistical results of tourism activities in the first 9 months of the year are very encouraging. We welcomed 12.7 million visitors, an increase of 43% over the same period. The last three months of the year are the peak time for welcoming international visitors. Therefore, this is the "golden" time for us to fully perceive and evaluate, thereby making forecasts for the upcoming direction to achieve higher results, especially in the high-end tourist segment to Vietnam. More important than the numbers is the quality of visitors to Vietnam, how to make visitors spend more, stay longer...

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that with the assessments, suggestions and orientations at the workshop "Which products for high-end tourists to Vietnam in 2024" will help management agencies have scientific and practical bases to promote Vietnam's tourism to develop in the right direction, with increasingly higher and sustainable quality according to Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW dated January 16, 2017 of the Politburo on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector and Resolution No. 82/NQ-CP dated May 18, 2023 of the Government on key tasks and solutions to accelerate recovery and accelerate effective and sustainable tourism development.

According to the Director of the National Tourism Administration Nguyen Trung Khanh, Vietnam has great potential to become a quality destination, welcoming high-class tourists (in terms of nature, rich and diverse culture; stable and safe politics; friendly people...). Although we have achieved many positive results, the exploitation is not commensurate with that potential.

Director Nguyen Trung Khanh said that to develop high-end tourism, the role of businesses and localities is important in linking products, perfecting processes and standards with high service quality, and forming an ecosystem to provide high-end products and services for tourists.

Along with having unique products, prices must be at an appropriate level to create a competitive advantage. From there, ensuring sustainable tourism development and environmental protection, this is an important factor that needs to be prioritized to affirm the position of Vietnam tourism as a high-class, quality tourist destination.

Journalist Tran Xuan Toan - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper said that Vietnam has welcomed many international delegations, including those with high spending levels in key markets such as Korea, the Middle East, Europe, and the US.

Vietnam tourism also recorded that the spending level of visitors in these markets is gradually increasing, but to optimize revenue, it is necessary to propose perspectives for discussion from the community, travel businesses, accommodation, tourism services and from the perspective of state management agencies, ministries, sectors... To attract high-end visitors requires not only one side but also the cooperation of all sectors, levels and society.

The most important thing is to understand the customer.

At the Workshop, experts and managers of large companies and corporations in the tourism sector analyzed and evaluated the quality of Vietnam's tourism compared to other countries; evaluated the high-end tourist market in Vietnam; clarified the role of high-end tourism in Vietnam's tourism; clarified the opportunities, difficulties and challenges of high-end tourism; initially proposed a number of orientations and policies that the tourism industry needs to focus on in the coming time...

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ky - Chairman of Vietravel Group, In addition to the highest level of infrastructure and services, high-end tourism products must ultimately leave an impression on visitors, a memorable trip, an unforgettable memory or a surprising feeling for visitors... so that visitors spend their money wisely.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ky, high-end tourism cannot lack the quality of the service system provided, but it also cannot lack thoughtful, meticulous, thorough preparation and unique, emotional features for tourists. High-end tourism is to implement "GO GREEN", reduce waste, must do "green" tourism before doing high-end tourism, must focus on the environment, focus on the safety needs of tourists.

Ms. Ngo Thi Huong - Deputy General Director of Sales and Marketing of Vinpearl Joint Stock Company said that for Vinpearl, the most important thing is to understand customers, who they are, and what they want.

"We conduct customer surveys and approach the market to determine the services customers need, from which we develop products to reach the target customers of Vinpearl. With the high-end customer segment, they always require separate products, designed specifically to meet personalized needs," said Ms. Ngo Thi Huong.

Ms. Ngo Thi Huong said that Vinpearl currently has 49 facilities nationwide and in 2025 Vinpearl will open many new facilities in Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh...

Vinpearl always aims for the goal of "a multi-experience destination" even though in Phu Quoc, Nha Trang we have super complexes: Vinpearl, Vinhomes, Vinwonders... we also aim for first-time experiences. For tourists, especially high-end guests, safety is always a concern, whether entering the amusement park or golf course, it is necessary to ensure safety, bringing peace of mind to customers.

Sharing the same opinion with Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ky, Ms. Ngo Thi Huong said that nowadays tourists also prioritize mental health care, so green tourism is of great interest to tourists. Therefore, luxury tourism needs to pay attention to all of the above factors.
