During his working visit to Luxembourg, on the morning of March 21 (local time), Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh met with Vice President of the Luxembourg Parliament Fernand Etgen.
Vice President of the Parliament Fernand Etgen expressed his pleasure to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and the Vietnamese delegation; assessing Vietnam as an outstanding success story with an attractive investment environment, a strong voice at multilateral forums, and people's lives constantly developing and prospering.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh expressed his gratitude for the warm and sincere reception of Vice President of the European Parliament Fernand Etgen for the delegation, affirming that Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to promote the comprehensive partnership and cooperation with the European Union (EU), including Luxembourg, Vietnam's strategic partner in green finance; hoping that this visit to Luxembourg will contribute to promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, including cooperation between the two legislative bodies.
At the meeting, the two leaders agreed that the Vietnam-Luxembourg friendship has been developing well in recent years, with long and comprehensive strides, notably the establishment of a strategic partnership on green finance.
High-level visits have helped deepen cooperation between the two countries, notably the visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Luxembourg in 2022 and the visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel in 2023. The two sides have many important cooperation projects and, at the same time, share many common views on international and regional issues of mutual concern.
On this occasion, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for Luxembourg's valuable and timely support in helping Vietnam overcome the consequences caused by Typhoon Yagi in 2024.
In order to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two sides, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and the Vice President of the Luxembourg Parliament agreed to continue to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels; continue to realize and bring the strategic partnership on green finance into life, practically promoting the economic development of the two countries; increase two-way trade exchange, cooperation in the fields of science-technology, education-training, tourism and people-to-people exchange.
The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister thanked Luxembourg for its support for the Vietnamese community in Luxembourg in recent times and hoped to continue receiving support from the local government so that the Vietnamese community can have favorable conditions, stabilize their lives, integrate well into the local community, make many positive contributions to the socio-economic development of Luxembourg as well as promote the role of a bridge of friendship in the Vietnam - Luxembourg relationship.
Informing Vice President Fernand Etgen about the policy of building international financial centers in Vietnam, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh asked the Luxembourg Parliament to support the Government and Luxembourg enterprises in sharing experiences with Vietnam in building and operating financial centers, including issues such as green and sustainable financial development, digital asset management, etc. Vice President Fernand Etgen welcomed and expressed confidence in the success of the international financial market in Vietnam.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh conveyed a message from National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man about Vietnam's desire to strengthen relations between the two countries' legislative bodies and support each other at international forums. He also wished to welcome Vice President Fernand Etgen to visit Vietnam.
At the meeting, the two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, sharing views on resolving disagreements by peaceful means, through diplomatic channels and respecting international law, stopping the escalation of tensions and ending the use of force.
During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Luxembourg in December 2022, Vietnam proposed that the two sides promote cooperation in the field of financial services. In May 2023, during Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel's official visit to Vietnam, Vietnam and Luxembourg officially established a Strategic Partnership on green finance.
