Accordingly, 6 bus routes will be relocated, including 4 routes to the Central region (Binh Dinh, Phu Yen) and 2 routes to the North (Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang). The relocation time is from the second quarter of 2023. These routes have 12 transport units with a total of 72 buses.
The new Eastern Bus Station has an area of over 16 hectares, making it the largest bus station in the country.
SAMCO representative said that since the new Mien Dong bus station opened in October 2020, it has relocated nearly 100 routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the Central and Northern regions (except routes passing through National Highway 14 and to the Central Highlands) from the old Mien Dong bus station.
Recently, especially during holidays and Tet, some vehicles have taken advantage of the maintenance of National Highway 14 (but operated on the wrong route, not on National Highway 14 but on National Highway 1 passing through the new Mien Dong bus station) to go to the old Mien Dong bus station and the parking lots, gas stations, Thanh Cong parking lots... along National Highway 13 from Binh Phuoc Intersection to the new Mien Dong bus station to pick up and drop off passengers. These vehicles also arranged to pick up passengers in front of the new Mien Dong bus station, causing disorder and traffic safety.
Therefore, moving bus routes along National Highway 14 to the new Eastern Bus Station aims to ensure stability in organizing passenger transport activities at bus stations in the city and fair competition among transport units.
Moving 6 bus routes to the new Mien Dong bus station
The new Eastern Bus Station started construction in April 2017. With an area of over 16 hectares, this is the largest bus station in the country, not only a traffic hub but also planned to become a multifunctional complex with a commercial center, office services, logistics and freight forwarding combined with entertainment, in harmony with the metro square area and green trees serving community activities.
The relocation of bus routes from the old bus station to the new bus station is carried out in 3 phases. Of which, phases 1 and 2 have been implemented by the City Department of Transport in coordination with SAMCO in 2020 and 2022 respectively. Phase 3 will continue to relocate all remaining routes (more than 60 routes) when the new Eastern bus station operates stably, the transport order and traffic connection are ensured.
