"Happy Friday" took place for the first time at Le Dinh Chinh Primary School, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City from the 2023-2024 school year and is still loved and anticipated by students in the 2024-2025 school year.

Friday no uniform, casual wear

Coming to Le Dinh Chinh Primary School on the last Friday of the month, parents and visitors saw students excitedly playing with friends in the school yard in casual clothes. They chose their most beautiful and favorite clothes to wear to school. Many classes also wore bright yellow and red T-shirts.

Mr. Van Nhat Phuong, the school's principal, said that the idea of implementing Happy Friday is associated with the implementation of the happy school model and the slogan "Every day at school is a happy day", so the school wants to spread happiness to every student.

To implement this, at the beginning of the school year, during a meeting with parents, the school asked for opinions on "The last Friday of the month will allow students to wear free clothes". Parents agreed. The first Happy Friday was implemented in the 2023-2024 school year.

Mr. Van Nhat Phuong said that after a week of implementation, parents of students in each class had the idea of "colors" for each class to wear at the end of the month, so each class designed their own uniform. From the class uniform, students confidently participated in experiential activities organized by the school and class such as group dancing, extracurricular activities...

"Since then, it has become a habit that every last Friday of the month, students will choose a nice outfit to wear to school. By wearing free clothes, homeroom teachers coordinate with parents to guide students to wear appropriate clothes when going to school, work, as well as conveniently participate in outdoor classes and take a lunch break," added the principal of Le Dinh Chinh Primary School, District 11.

Happy with the 'non-rice' boarding meal

Not only do boarding students get to wear casual clothes on Happy Fridays, but on other Fridays of the week, boarding students also get to eat "non-rice" meals. During this lunch, students get to enjoy dishes that they all love, such as fried chicken, beef noodle soup, chicken vermicelli, etc. The menu is all published on EnetViet.

In addition, at the end of each month, the school also organizes a buffet-style lunch, helping students have a fun experience sitting in the schoolyard and chatting with friends. Happy lunch is also an opportunity to educate students on the culture of lining up, taking just the right amount of food, picking up food gently, avoiding spilling food, calmly waiting for their turn... creating habits and discipline for students.

Mr. Van Nhat Phuong said that in order to make every day at school truly a happy day for students, the school always launches happy lessons with the desire to build a sustainable happy school for teachers and students. These things have positively impacted the students' self-study awareness and love of going to school.

Mr. Phuong gave evidence: "The 2024-2025 school year is the year to implement the 2018 General Education Program at all levels. Grades 1, 2, and 3 have from 7 to 10 elective periods. Each day, students have a maximum of 7 periods. The school has consulted parents to reserve periods 6 and 7 on Friday for two elective periods: digital citizenship skills education and STEM. Students who do not need to study can rest at home on Friday afternoon, but most parents send their children to school because they like to study these elective periods."
