Farming hands become improving hands
Coming from a farming family and having worked as a hired rubber tapper for many years, in 2015, Mr. Tran The Vinh (born in 1988) applied for a job as a worker at Megatec Company Limited, Chon Thanh Industrial Park (Chon Thanh Town). “Working outside is an unstable job with unstable income, so I decided to apply for the company with the hope of finding a stable working environment, industrial and professional working style” - Mr. Vinh said.
Young and talented worker Tran The Vinh has many initiatives that benefit the company and create a safe working environment for workers.
When he gradually got used to the job, Mr. Vinh discovered that the company's wood production industry created dust from all stages such as sawing, cutting, planing, and sanding. Wood dust is not only toxic but also causes asthma, dermatitis, cancer, and can easily cause fires and explosions, and is unsafe for workers. Instead of finding another working environment, Mr. Vinh chose to stay and come up with the idea of "improving the airy working environment, reducing occupational diseases for workers". Taking advantage of his lunch break and Sundays, he researched and tested the design. After 3 months of hard work, the initiative was completed, helping the company save 500 million VND/year on electricity for lighting and cooling fans. "When I focused on researching and testing the initiative, many workers said that when I work for a salary, I just go home after work. But for me, if I work, I have to do it well, as much as possible for the development of the company and to increase the income of workers" - Mr. Vinh shared.
In the spirit of promoting creative thinking, in 2024, Mr. Vinh continued to succeed with the initiative "Improving the wood planer from 2 sides to 4 sides". Accordingly, the rate of products with missing sizes decreased from 15% to about 7-8%, the quality of the wood surface was improved, products were diversified, creating a safe working environment, helping the company reduce production costs by more than 870 million VND/year.
Not only is he a “tree of initiative”, Mr. Vinh is close, gentle, friendly, and is the center of solidarity among workers and laborers in the company. “It is his positive energy that motivates workers to stay long-term, considering the company as a warm and affectionate second home” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, Chairman of the Trade Union of Megatec Company Limited shared.
With his continuous efforts, Mr. Vinh was awarded a certificate of merit for "Excellent worker, creative worker" in 2024 by the Provincial People's Committee and received many benefits from the company such as: innovation rewards, salary increase, promotion to the position of Team Leader of Team 4. Mr. Vinh happily shared: "These are both prestigious rewards for myself and also a motivation to help me and my fellow workers have more enthusiasm to continue to contribute, research many technical innovation initiatives, contribute to building the company stronger and stronger and contribute to the development of the local economy".
Workers in the 4.0 era
Graduated from the Northern Electricity College in 2013, Mr. Dinh Cong Hoan (born in 1988) worked at Dak Glun Hydropower Plant, Duong 10 Commune, Bu Dang District. His daily job is to participate in periodic maintenance inspection of machinery and equipment, support members in operating equipment to calculate water flow to the lake, capacity and machine running time... To meet the requirements of the job, Mr. Hoan regularly updates and researches more specialized documents. "Smartphones and computers are "working tools" for me to improve my qualifications and technical expertise. In the digital space, there is a huge data storage with low cost. I can study and apply at the same time very conveniently" - Mr. Hoan shared.
As the shift leader of Dak Glun Hydropower Plant, Mr. Dinh Cong Hoan always actively supports his colleagues in applying technology in their daily work.
It is from his close attention to daily work, his spirit of self-study, improving his qualifications, especially applying technology on digital infrastructures... that has helped Mr. Hoan become a good worker, a typical party member, and a shift leader operating the factory. "In the position of overseeing the entire shift, I soon discovered the limitations of not applying digital technology well. The goal of my initiative is to reduce labor, production costs and bring efficiency to the unit" - Mr. Hoan expressed.
The first initiative he focused on was “Digitalizing the way of recording operating data”. Previously, the factory had to spend about 4 hours/day to record data and the cost of printing books was 100,000 VND/month. Now, Dak Glun Hydropower Plant has applied Mr. Hoan’s innovative process, data is continuously updated during operation, the time to update data is reduced to 2 hours/day and there is no additional cost of printing books.
After the success of the above application, Mr. Hoan continued to research and launch the second initiative "Digitalizing KIV software". This is an application that helps the factory calculate the amount of rain and water flowing into the lake, thereby reducing the annual loss of water through the spillway by about 30%, equivalent to increasing revenue by about 150 million VND/year.
Mr. Dinh Cong Hoan is passionate about research and application. “ Digitizing the way of recording operating data” , “Digitizing KIV software” at Dak Glun Hydropower Plant
At work, Mr. Hoan often helps and guides workers on how to optimally apply digital transformation in their daily work. “One of the driving forces for the unit to overcome difficulties and rise up is thanks to the team of skilled, dedicated and creative workers, typically Mr. Hoan. This talented young worker has contributed to the Board of Directors to make the company's operations more and more professional in line with the trend of applying modern technology 4.0" - Mr. Tran Van Huyen, Director of Dak Glun Hydropower Plant shared.
“Skilled young workers” like Tran The Vinh and Dinh Cong Hoan are clear evidence of the emulation movement “Skilled workers, creative workers” that is increasingly spreading and becoming effective in enterprises in the province. Thereby, it contributes to embellishing the image of workers in the 4.0 era who are always diligent and dedicated, not only for their livelihood but also for their belief in the role and position of workers in the era of national development.
