The workshop aims to deploy the Vietnam Sports Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045, with the goal of building a sports development strategy for Ho Chi Minh City, while at the same time anticipating technological trends and exploiting the economic potential of sports.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the context of the country's strong transformation, physical education and sports play an increasingly important role in socio-economic development and improving people's quality of life.
The workshop focused on very topical topics of great significance to Ho Chi Minh City with the goal of building a sustainable sports development strategy and maximizing the potential of technology in the field of physical education and sports, especially artificial intelligence, to bring Ho Chi Minh City sports to the international level.
At the workshop, Associate Professor - Dr. Vu Viet Bao, Chairman of the Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Sports, said that Resolution 98/2023/QH15 creates opportunities for the development of sports in Ho Chi Minh City, but there are still many challenges in terms of finance, infrastructure and management mechanisms.
The city has implemented eight key projects to upgrade infrastructure, promote socialization, develop school sports, train athletes, and expand international cooperation. However, many major projects are still behind schedule due to policy and resource constraints.
Dr. Vu Thai Hong, Director of the Institute of Sports Science and Technology, said that the total revenue from sports economic activities in our country in 2020 reached about 2,400 billion VND. From 2018 to 2023, the Vietnamese sports market had a compound growth rate with a revenue increase of 19.5%. It is forecasted that in 2024, the sportswear market will grow by 2.9%.
In particular, Ho Chi Minh City has great advantages and potential, much more superior than other provinces and cities in the country to develop sports and sports economy. The city can build sports economy into a real economic sector like other economic sectors and become one of the economic sectors that practically contribute to socio-economic development.
To promote the sports economy, Ho Chi Minh City needs to complete the legal framework, attract investment under the public-private model, promote digital transformation and apply science and technology in management and training. At the same time, organizing international sports events and developing sports tourism will help the city improve its position in the region.
With the right strategy and the cooperation of relevant parties, Ho Chi Minh City can become the leading sports center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia…
