According to Mr. Trieu Tan Phu, Director of ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands, previously, the Central Highlands Branch (the predecessor of ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands today) was established in Lieu Tri village, Binh Nguyen commune (Thang Binh district, Quang Nam) with the main task of organizing the production of commercial seeds to supply to provinces from Thua Thien-Hue and beyond, and at the same time transferring quality seeds of ThaiBinh Seed to farmers in the provinces of the South Central Coast and Central Highlands.
At that time, the Central Highlands Branch was the first unit established in a province outside of ThaiBinh Seed Group, initially with only a rented house as an office and 3 employees, so the unit encountered many difficulties in organizing production and business activities. There were no facilities, limited human resources; differences in customs and farming practices made the Branch staff confused in their operations. However, with determination, tireless efforts, along with the help and facilitation of the Board of Directors, the General Director of the Group and the support of the localities, the Central Highlands Branch proactively carried out urgent tasks such as recruiting staff, getting acquainted with the market, finding production partners and building a distribution channel system.
Determining that in order to develop, it is necessary to invest in facilities to develop production and proactively prepare goods for business. Therefore, in July 2008, the Branch moved from Lieu Tri village, Binh Nguyen commune (Thang Binh district) to 164 Tran Quy Cap (Tam Ky city, Quang Nam). Here, the unit was invested by ThaiBinh Seed Group to buy a facility in Truong Xuan Industrial - Handicraft Cluster (Tam Ky city) with an area of 3,800m2 including offices, factories and warehouses. After receiving, the unit focused resources on repairing and renovating offices, warehouses, accommodation areas for workers... After about 4 months, the unit completed the repair and started operating.
Over the past years, ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands has brought farmers many new rice varieties with high productivity and quality to replace traditional varieties that have gradually degenerated. Photo: PV.
“With the efforts of the collective of workers, the Branch has gradually overcome difficulties and challenges, started to develop production and business; the system of production linkage points and distribution channels has gradually been formed in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh... At the end of 2009, the unit continued to receive investment from ThaiBinh Seed Group to install a European technology processing machine; this is the premise to create many opportunities for the development of the branch in the following time.
Since then, the branch has gradually built up a cooperative relationship in production and established a distribution channel system. Branch staff and production units have constantly followed the practical situation in the fields, transferring the rice seed production process to farmers. In addition, the unit has regularly conducted many testing models and demonstrated new varieties of ThaiBinh Seed so that local farmers have the opportunity to access them.
“In addition, the unit always focuses on coordinating with specialized agencies in training and transferring technical advances in crop production to farmers such as reducing the amount of seeds used, applying ICM, IPM, mechanization, etc. Thereby, farmers and agents know more and more about ThaiBinh Seed's rice seed brand; thereby creating opportunities for the unit to have a strong transformation", Mr. Trieu Tan Phu shared.
Modern seed processing plant
Since the end of 2017, ThaiBinh Seed's Central Highlands Branch has experienced strong growth; production and business results each year exceed the previous year by approximately 20%. The total area of production linkage remains stable at an average of 2,000 hectares/year; the output of seeds purchased from farmers is from 9,000-10,000 tons/year; the output of seeds supplied to the market in 2021 is double that of 2017.
Thanks to their productivity and quality, ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited's rice varieties in the Central Highlands are always highly appreciated by farmers and authorities. Photo: PV.
Along with the development of production and business, the scale and organization of the unit are getting larger, so the demand for reserve goods is also increasing. However, the land fund at Truong Xuan Industrial Park has been thoroughly used by the unit, there is no longer the ability to invest in further expansion. In addition, the trend of farmer production is changing, the area of households is getting larger, so the purchase of fresh rice seeds is becoming more urgent. At the same time, science and technology are increasingly developing, requiring investment for innovation. Based on the above reality, in early 2022, the Central Highlands Branch was transferred to a One Member Limited Liability Company, becoming a subsidiary of ThaiBinh Seed Group.
At this time, ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands continues to look for a new location to invest in building and expanding its facilities. With the help of the Quang Nam provincial government and related units, the Company has a location at Lot CN2, Cho Lo Industrial Park, Tam Thai Commune (Phu Ninh District, Quang Nam) to establish a project to build a "Facilities for preserving, processing and producing agricultural products".
“In early April 2024, ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited - Central Highlands officially started construction of the project items; after more than 8 months of construction regardless of day or night, sun or rain, by the end of December 2024, all project items were completed and put into use and started trial operation,” Mr. Trieu Tan Phu shared.
In addition to production and business activities, ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands also always accompanies the locality to support and help families in difficult circumstances. Photo: PV.
According to Mr. Phu, the new headquarters of ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands has an area of nearly 10,000m2, with a total investment of approximately 50 billion VND. The project is invested synchronously and modernly with full construction items serving production and business, including: An operating system with an area of 520m2 and auxiliary works. The factory area with an area of 1,700m2 is arranged in a closed loop from drying, processing to packaging and shipping.
With a completely new non-return drying floor system, including 4 drying floors, capacity of 30 tons/floor, with 2 separate screw conveyors and full auxiliary equipment, modern technology and automation in most stages help maximize drying capacity, reaching 120 tons of fresh rice/day and night, the quality of the seed batch after drying is more uniform. For the processing stage, the Company invested in installing 2 more seed sorting machines; the current processing capacity at the factory is 6-7 tons of finished products/hour. The warehouse meets the standards for preserving plant varieties with an area of nearly 3,000m2, the storage capacity at the same time reaches nearly 3,500 tons.
Thus, currently, ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands owns 2 batch-free drying systems with a total drying capacity of 160 tons of fresh rice/day and night; a seed sorting and processing system at 2 facilities with a capacity of over 10 tons of finished products/hour; a warehouse system with a storage capacity of over 5,000 tons at a time.
“This is a solid foundation for ThaiBinh Seed Company Limited in the Central Highlands to continuously improve product quality, in order to bring farmers good quality products, better meeting customer requirements,” Mr. Trieu Tan Phu shared.
