Actively protecting citizens in the case of Vietnamese death at Thai hotel

On July 18, at a regular press conference, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang provided further information on the recent death of 6 people, including Vietnamese citizens, in Bangkok, Thailand, as well as the progress of citizen protection work.

Specifically, Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has regularly updated information related to the incident. Thai authorities said that 4 out of 6 people who died at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on the evening of July 16 were Vietnamese citizens.

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued a telegram directing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to closely coordinate with the Thai side to investigate and clarify the incident, implement measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens, and request the Ministry of Public Security to coordinate the investigation at the request of the Thai Prime Minister to promptly verify the identities of the victims, promptly report on the progress of the investigation, carry out citizen protection work, visit and guide the victims' families in related funeral procedures according to regulations.

"Implementing the Prime Minister's direction, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided information about the incident to the competent agencies of the Ministry of Public Security to deploy professional measures," said the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the same time, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand has been closely coordinating with Thai authorities to update the situation, support the investigation, request the Royal Thai Police and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide information on the developments of the incident and create conditions for the Embassy to carry out citizen protection work.

"The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand has continuously kept in contact with Thai authorities to promptly guide the victims' families through funeral procedures when permitted," Ms. Pham Thu Hang informed.
