The reason is that many of these works have become classics, loved by many generations of audiences. They are also plays and roles imbued with Vietnamese cultural nuances, telling stories of Vietnamese history through unique theatrical art.

The first classic cai luong play that must be mentioned is “Tieng Trong Me Linh” by author Viet Dung - Vinh Dien, directed by People's Artist Ngo Y Linh, performed by Thanh Nga Cai Luong Troupe, first performed in 1977. The content of the cai luong play is about the Hai Ba Trung uprising in Vietnamese history, told through a story that is rich in identity and attractive. Up to now, although it has been re-produced many times, the production by Thanh Nga Cai Luong Troupe, with the participation of two veteran artists Thanh Nga and Thanh Sang, is still mentioned by many people as a model role in cai luong stage.

Another very famous cai luong play is “The People of the Suburbs” directed by Minh Khoa, which appeared on the stage of the Saigon 1 Troupe in 1976. It is the story of the people and soldiers of 18 villages of Ba Diem - Hoc Mon who fought bravely against the American invaders. The two classic characters of the play are Mr. Tam Khoe and Bay Don. The play marks famous cai luong names such as Ut Tra On, Ut Bach Lan, Thanh Duoc… To celebrate April 30 this year, Dai Viet Stage by playwright Hoang Song Viet has re-staged the play, creating a very good effect.

In the category of reformed theater, the list also honors the play “Chim Viet Canh Nam” by author The Ha Van, directed by People’s Artist Luu Chi Lang, performed by Tran Huu Trang Reformed Theater, which is nearly half a century old. The play has a revolutionary theme, about patriotic overseas student Nguyen Thai Binh with the participation of artists Dang Vinh Quang, Ngoc Giau, Kim Phuong… Another play is “Rong Phuong” by author Le Duy Hanh (reformed by: Hoang Song Viet, directed by: People’s Artist Tran Ngoc Giau) performed by Tran Huu Trang Reformed Theater; won the Gold Medal at the National Reformed Theater Competition in 2005. The list also includes “Chien Binh” by Tran Huu Trang Reformed Theater, won the Gold Medal at the National Reformed Theater Competition in 2015.

In the genre of drama, when mentioning the name "Durian Leaf", many people will certainly have special feelings. The play was written by People's Artist Kim Cuong in 1963 under the pen name Hoang Dung, directed by People's Artist Ngo Y Linh. It is the story of the difficult and tearful life of Miss Dieu. Each character in the play leaves a special impression on the audience, in which the role of Miss Dieu is played by People's Artist Kim Cuong and the role of Miss Dieu's mother is played by People's Artist Bay Nam, the mother of People's Artist Kim Cuong, becoming classic models of the drama stage. The remaining play is "Da Co Hoai Lang" by the author - Meritorious Artist Thanh Hoang, directed by Meritorious Artist Nguyen Cong Ninh, performed by the Small Stage Drama Theater. The story about the nostalgia of two old men far away from home has moved the audience.

The form of opera has the play “Le Cong Ky An” performed by the Opera Art Theatre. The play praises the famous general and meritorious mandarin Ta Quan Le Van Duyet - Governor of Gia Dinh citadel.

In the circus genre, it is recorded as “A O Show” performed by Luna Production. In the form of circus, “A O Show” uses all the main props of bamboo, combined with unique music, creating an attractive program with a strong Vietnamese identity. “A O Show” has been toured in many countries around the world.

“Hero Nguyen Trung Truc” is a representative play of the water puppetry genre. The play was written by Mai Tham, directed by Thu Thuy - Ngoc Hai, and performed by Phuong Nam Arts Theater.
