The Government Office has just issued Document No. 5114/VPCP-KGVX dated July 10, conveying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's opinion on handling press information reflecting the admission rate to grade 10 in the 2023-2024 school year in Hanoi.
Many 10th grade students in Hanoi are eagerly awaiting information about lowering benchmark scores.
Previously, the press reported that the enrollment rate for grade 10 public schools in Hanoi for the 2023-2024 school year was at a record low.
The Prime Minister requested the Minister of Education and Training to direct relevant units to review and report fully and accurately on the enrollment work for grade 10 public schools in Hanoi for the 2023-2024 school year; report to the Prime Minister before July 12.
Hanoi plans to enroll about 72,000 students in grade 10 of public high schools, accounting for 55.7%. The number of students is large while the quota for grade 10 of public high schools is low. Many parents are helpless when they see their children fail grade 10 of public schools while their family's finances are too tight to study in private schools.
This year, the number of candidates with a chance to pass the public 10th grade exam is the lowest in the past 4 years. This makes many parents and students feel "sitting on hot coals".
Notably, as Thanh Nien reported, this afternoon, July 10, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training signed a decision approving the lowering of the benchmark score to recruit additional students to grade 10 of high school in the 2023-2024 school year.
According to regulations, when lowering the admission score, in addition to the first choice, public high schools are allowed to accept students with the second and third choices who meet the admission requirements. The time to receive admission applications is from 8:00 a.m. on July 11 to 5:00 p.m. on July 14.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also requested that after lowering the admission scores, public and private high schools in the city need to create the most favorable conditions for students to withdraw previously submitted admission applications to apply to schools that are admitted according to the additional admission scores.
