Pham Ly Duc's Aspiration
Center-back Pham Ly Duc is a new face of the Vietnamese team in the March training session, when he was trusted by coach Kim Sang-sik despite having been in the V-League for less than 6 months. He is only 22 years old, with only 16 V-League matches this season, and the 2024 National U.21 Championship with U.21 HAGL.
"With the mindset of a young player, I am very happy and excited to be on the list of the Vietnamese team this time," Ly Duc shared before the training session on the afternoon of March 15. "At first I was a bit worried, but then the players supported me in both daily life and training."

In the Vietnam national team, Ly Duc is assigned to share a room with Chau Ngoc Quang, his teammate in the HAGL shirt. According to the central defender born in 2003, the players in the national team are all close and friendly. Ly Duc emphasized that wearing the national team shirt is an opportunity for him to learn from more experienced seniors.
"Each person has different strengths. I am a young player who still lacks a lot of things, so I need to learn from the other players on the team. When I see something I lack, I often confide in the players on the team, especially the players in defense like Duy Manh, Thanh Chung, Tien Dung...", Ly Duc emphasized.
Ly Duc has a nice body (1.82 m tall), with good jumping power and body thickness to serve the dispute. He is the type of player who is tough, ready to "fight" with foreign players, not afraid of collision. His aggressiveness and enthusiasm help Ly Duc stand out compared to other central defenders of the same age.
Although there are still many limitations, such as the ability to read situations and make judgments when facing more cunning opponents, lack of experience or "coolness", these are qualities that need time and experience to hone. Importantly, Ly Duc has desire and fighting spirit.

"When competing, everyone wants to be on the team's roster. I'm a young player, the first thing I need to do is try to practice and show the coaches," Ly Duc assessed.

"My idol is center back Sergio Ramos," Ly Duc affirmed. The HAGL center back learned how to play with passion, but still stay calm from his senior.
According to the player born in 2003, the training program at the Vietnam national team is different from HAGL, but he has to learn to adapt.
"The national team has a different training plan than the club, however, the training is mainly up to me. I will try my best to meet the exercises the teachers give me. I hope the teachers will give me the opportunity to show myself on the field. If I get on the field, I will try my best to play well," Ly Duc emphasized.
"The guys on the team taught me a lot about marking people and communicating on the field. Every day with me on the team is a useful day of learning for me."
After central defender Viet Anh withdrew, the Vietnamese team only has Duy Manh, Thanh Chung, Thanh Binh, Tien Dung and Ly Duc for the central defender position. Facing two weaker opponents, Cambodia (friendly match, March 19) and Laos (Asian Cup 2027 qualifier, March 25), when the defense is not under much pressure, Ly Duc may be given a chance.
