Previously, Hanoi announced lowering admission scores for 28 public high schools and 3 specialized high schools (nearly 3 times more than last year).

Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, denied the information that the public 10th grade passing rate this year was at a record low, the actual rate was about 60.9%.

In 2023, the city will have more than 129,000 students taking the junior high school graduation exam, an increase of about 250 students compared to the previous year. Of these, 102,000 students will register for 10th grade admission to high schools, an increase of 1,000 students compared to the previous year. The initial expected enrollment target for public schools is more than 77,000 students, accounting for 59.96%.

"After the first batch of students enroll and the second batch of additional admission scores are lowered, the expected enrollment results of public high schools are more than 78,000 students, accounting for 60.9%, an increase of about 1,000 students compared to the 2022-2023 school year, not a record low," said Mr. Cuong.

The Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training added that based on industry data, it is forecasted that in the next 3 years, the number of 9th graders in the area graduating from high school will increase by about 29,000 students, equivalent to about 722 classes.

Specifically, in 2024 - 2025, nearly 135,000 students are expected to graduate, an increase of more than 5,000 students compared to the 2023 - 2024 school year.

The 2025-2026 school year is expected to have nearly 130,000 students, an increase of about 680 students compared to the 2023-2024 school year.

At its peak, in 2026 - 2027, it is expected to have more than 151,000 students, an increase of about 22,000 students compared to the 2023 - 2024 school year.

Regarding the scale of public high schools (excluding autonomous public high schools and jointly managed public high schools), by 2024-2025, Hanoi is expected to have about 121 schools, an increase of two schools compared to the 2023-2024 school year.

By the 2025-2026 school year, there will be about 123 schools, an increase of 4 schools compared to the 2023-2024 school year.

By the 2026-2027 school year, there will be about 125 schools, an increase of 6 schools compared to the 2023-2024 school year.

Regarding the concern that Hanoi does not lack school places but there are still parents lining up overnight, Mr. Cuong said that the reason for saying so is because, counting the number of students entering grade 10, spread evenly across the city's quota, Hanoi does not lack school places. The problem here is that the city is experiencing localized surpluses and shortages: surpluses in the suburbs and severe shortages in the inner city, for example in Hoang Mai and Nam Tu Liem districts...

To solve the problem of lack of schools in the coming time, according to Mr. Cuong, this unit has a plan to build new schools and establish new schools in the period 2021 - 2025.
