On the morning of February 3, on the first day back to work after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited, sent New Year greetings and assigned tasks to the State Bank and the banking sector in 2025 and the coming time.
On behalf of the Government, the Prime Minister commended and acknowledged the outstanding achievements of the banking sector, especially under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, with the direct direction of the Politburo and the Secretariat, headed by the General Secretary.
Together with the Government, the accompaniment of the National Assembly, the support of the entire political system and the support from the people, businesses and the international community, the banking industry has made important contributions to the country's outstanding achievements in 2024.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also highly appreciated the banking sector's active implementation of resolutions and directions of the Central Committee, Politburo, Secretariat, National Assembly and Government, grasping the situation and proactively advising and responding quickly to sudden and urgent situations.
The sector has also consistently implemented a reasonable interest rate policy, ensured system safety, controlled bad debts and effectively handled weak banks. At the same time, the bank has supported socio-economic development by providing credit to priority sectors such as wood, aquaculture, social housing and other important areas.
The year 2025 will be of special significance with many important tasks, including boosting economic growth to at least 8%, preparing for Party Congresses at all levels, and organizing major national events.
The Prime Minister requested the banking sector to continue to accompany the Government, effectively implement the Government's resolutions, contribute to the stable development of the economy, control inflation and ensure major balances.
The Prime Minister also requested the banking sector to increase the application of science and technology, digital transformation, and reduce costs to lower lending interest rates, while directing credit to priority areas such as developing social housing, eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, and investing in infrastructure.
The industry also needs to continue to deal with weak banks, control bad debt and pioneer digital transformation, build industry databases and do a good job of policy communication.
The Prime Minister emphasized the spirit of "turning nothing into something, turning difficult into easy" , valuing time, intelligence and decisiveness, overcoming limits to create breakthroughs. The banking sector needs to coordinate closely with agencies, operate monetary policy flexibly and effectively, create a favorable financial environment for production and business development, and improve the quality of life for the people.
The Prime Minister recommended that banks, especially joint stock commercial banks, promote the spirit of solidarity and social responsibility, share more with businesses and people, and contribute to the country's development.
At the same time, the industry needs to research and apply preferential policies for builders and buyers of social housing, contributing to helping low-income people have housing.
The Prime Minister also requested the banking sector to step up support for the development of strategic transport infrastructure and coordinate with businesses to remove infrastructure bottlenecks.
Besides, the industry needs to take the lead in implementing digital transformation, building databases and inspiring other industries to also transform digitally, while promoting credit for this field.
