The Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department said today (November 1) that it is coordinating with the General Department of Market Management to clarify and handle many business establishments at Ben Thanh Market, District 1, for violations of trading in counterfeit goods and infringing on industrial property rights of trademarks protected in Vietnam.

Previously, on the evening of October 31, authorities suddenly conducted administrative inspections of businesses selling items such as watches, handbags, etc. at Ben Thanh market.

The inspections took place as the businesses were preparing to close after a day of trading, and then continued late into the night.

As a result, at 6 stores, the authorities temporarily seized exhibits including: 294 watches bearing brands such as Rolex, Cartier, Chanel, Patek Philippe, Richard Mille, Burberry, Casio...; 116 handbags, belts, backpacks, wallets bearing brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermes, Montblanc, Burberry...

These items are suspected of counterfeiting protected trademarks in Vietnam.

As soon as information about the presence of authorities at Ben Thanh market was received, a series of shops at the nearby Saigon Square Shopping Center (Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, District 1) quickly closed to avoid inspection.

It is known that this is an activity to implement the plan of the General Department of Market Management on the fight against and prevention of counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin and goods infringing intellectual property rights in the period of 2021-2025.

The Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department also developed a plan to focus on fighting and preventing counterfeit goods, infringement of industrial property rights and commercial fraud in prominent areas and commercial centers in District 1 from now until the end of the peak period before, during and after the Lunar New Year in 2025.
