Regarding the search for missing MH370, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently emphasized that the public deserves answers about what happened to MH370.

Prime Minister Ibrahim said Transport Minister Anthony Loke informed the cabinet on December 20 about the resumption of the search for MH370 and the costs to be paid if it is found.

"If you ask me whether I am impressed or convinced by the new search for MH370, it is not clear. But we owe it to the people. At least, we have convinced them that the people are ready for the plane to be found" - Malay Mail quoted Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The Malaysian leader added that if Ocean Infinity finds MH370, Malaysia will pay the cost. "If they find it, we will pay. If they don't find it, we will not pay. That is our position," he said.

Previously, on December 20, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that Malaysia has agreed to continue searching for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, more than 10 years after the plane mysteriously disappeared.

"It is our responsibility, our duty and our commitment to the relatives of those on board the plane," Minister Anthony Loke told a press conference. "We hope that the search results this time will be positive, that the wreckage will be found and bring comfort to the families of the victims."

Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the Malaysian Cabinet has agreed to continue the search for missing Malaysia Airlines MH370. The search is being conducted by Ocean Infinity.

Malaysia's Ministry of Transport is negotiating the final terms of the search for MH370 with Ocean Infinity. Negotiations on resuming the search for MH370 are expected to be completed by early 2025.

Mr Loke also said the new search was carried out on a "no find, no fee" basis.

According to Bloomberg, Minister Loke said that the search will be conducted in a new area estimated to be 15,000 square kilometers in the southern Indian Ocean. The contract to search for MH370 by Ocean Infinity will last for 18 months and the Malaysian Judiciary is reviewing the search agreement with Ocean Infinity.

"The fee is $70 million if the plane is found," Mr. Loke said at a press conference on December 20. Ocean Infinity searched for MH370 in the Indian Ocean from 2017 to late 2018.

In March this year, the Texas-based company announced that it had found new scientific evidence about the final location of MH370.

In a separate statement to GB News earlier this month, Ocean Infinity said it had strengthened its understanding "of the location of MH370".

Oliver Plunkett, chief executive of Ocean Infinity, told People's Channel: "Since we left the southern Indian Ocean in 2018, our unwavering commitment to finding the missing aircraft and bringing answers to those involved has remained steadfast. In recent years, we have focused on enhancing our ocean search capabilities through advanced technology and robotics, allowing us to undertake some of the most complex and demanding underwater searches."

"In addition to our ongoing efforts, we have submitted a proposal to the Malaysian government and are actively discussing the possibility of resuming the search. By working with a range of experts, some external to Ocean Infinity, and conducting ongoing analysis, we have strengthened our understanding of the location of MH370," he stressed.

"We are optimistic that with this renewed focus, increased resources and active engagement with the Malaysian authorities, a successful outcome may be within reach. We look forward to resuming the search and continuing our efforts to find answers," Ocean Infinity said.

The search for missing MH370 plane has lasted more than 10 years

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared in March 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Beijing, China. The missing plane was carrying 239 passengers and crew. Over the years, efforts to find MH370 have failed.

Malaysia, Australia and China have launched an underwater search for MH370, in an area of 120,000 square kilometres in the southern Indian Ocean, based on automatic data connection between Inmarsat satellites and the aircraft.

The A$200 million search for MH370 was abandoned after two years, in January 2017, without finding any trace of the missing plane.

In 2018, Malaysia accepted a search proposal from US exploration company Ocean Infinity, also on a “no find, no fee” basis. Ocean Infinity’s search for MH370 lasted three months, covering an area of 112,000 square kilometres north of the original search location. The search was also fruitless and ended in May 2018.

More than 30 pieces of suspected MH370 debris have been collected along the African coast and on islands in the Indian Ocean, but only three wing flaps have been confirmed to be from MH370. Most of the MH370 debris has been used for analysis to narrow down the plane's crash site.

In their 495-page report on the disappearance of MH370 released in July 2018, investigators did not draw any conclusions about what happened to the Malaysia Airlines plane, stressing that the conclusion depended on finding the plane's wreckage.

The failure to locate MH370 has fueled a number of conspiracy theories. In recent years, some aviation experts have suggested that the most likely explanation is that the plane was deliberately flown off course by an experienced pilot. However, investigators have said there is nothing suspicious about the background, finances, training, or mental health of either the pilot or co-pilot of MH370.
