Cargo ships flock to the island to serve Tet
Sa Ky Port, in Binh Chau Commune, is the gateway to Ly Son Island. The last days of December are unusually busy. The Sa Ky Port Management Board is creating a large space for trucks to approach the wharf, bringing goods for Tet to Ly Son Island.
Cargo ships loaded with chrysanthemums, marigolds, kumquats, peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, etc. create a sparkling Tet color at the port. Sweating while transferring pots of chrysanthemums onto the boats, the porters have no time to rest, they try to speed up so that the ships can start their engines and leave the port in time to supply goods to the people on the outpost island to celebrate Tet.
Mr. Duong Quy, owner of the Muoi Giap transport ship, said the ship has been operating continuously. For the past week, the ship has been transporting about 300 pots of various Tet flowers to Ly Son Island every day. There are also many other goods.
"This year it has been raining continuously, but the past few days have been dry so more goods are coming to the port to the island. Every day I transport about 20 tons of various goods to the island," Mr. Quy provided the figures.
Having transported Tet goods from the mainland to Ly Son Island for many years, Mr. Quy assessed that this year the goods are more diverse than in previous years. Despite economic difficulties, the 22,000 islanders always consider Tet as an occasion for their children to return home to reunite, so they try to buy enough.

Check and avoid speculation, hoarding, and price hikes on Ly Son Island
All the holds were packed, and every space available for goods was used. Even the cabins were used to store cakes and candies. The ship owners said that the cargo was bulky and full, but in reality it was very light, and the ship was not overloaded.
The leader of Sa Ky Port Management Board said that during the peak period of transporting goods to Ly Son for Tet, the port receives 12 cargo ships to the island every day. For passenger ships, depending on actual demand, trips will be increased to ensure that all Ly Son people return to the island to celebrate Tet with their families.
"With the current favorable weather, there will be no obstacles for people from the mainland to get to the island. If the sea is rough and passenger ships cannot move, Quang Ngai province will contact the coast guard to help bring people back to the island," the leader of Sa Ky Port Management Board pledged.

Regarding the situation of goods on the island, Ms. Pham Thi Huong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Son district - said that she had asked officials to check and that the goods currently brought to the island basically meet the needs of the people.
In the coming days, cargo ships will carry more goods, and there will be a variety of goods for people to choose from. "The weather is good, so goods will be delivered to the island in time to serve the people during Tet. The atmosphere of Tet preparation on Ly Son island is very cheerful," Ms. Huong affirmed.
To prevent speculation, hoarding, and profiteering during Tet, Ly Son district also directed authorities to regularly review and monitor price listings from agents and traders. Ensure purchases at reasonable prices.
