The poem coincides with the thoughts and lifestyle of the General Secretary.
Mr. Son was a student of the first class of the Faculty of Literature at Hanoi University of Science. He was a lecturer assigned to accompany the 8th class of Literature, the class with student Nguyen Phu Trong who was evacuated to Dai Tu district, Bac Thai province (now Thai Nguyen) in 1965.

He emotionally shared: “I haven’t slept for the past few nights. Last night I stayed up all night because I felt sorry for my student Nguyen Phu Trong.”
For many months, Mr. Son had been following the General Secretary's health closely. Whenever he saw his student absent from a meeting, the teacher felt restless.
“When I heard the news of my student’s death, I was shocked. Today, I went with the students of the 8th grade literature class to say goodbye to Mr. Trong. We have lost a friend and a dear student,” said teacher Nguyen Ngoc Son.
Teacher Nguyen Ngoc Son shared many beautiful memories with the Literature class 8 (K8) and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at that time.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's K8 class was large in quantity, strong in quality, and enthusiastically participated in learning and extracurricular activities. Nguyen Phu Trong's student was then the Secretary of the Youth Union.
When evacuating in Thai Nguyen, whenever there was a need to mobilize students to participate with the locality, teacher Nguyen Ngoc Son often mainly mobilized the General Secretary's class.
According to teacher Nguyen Ngoc Son, the Literature class K8 of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his teachers are as close as a family. In Mr. Son's eyes, the General Secretary is a sincere, gentle person, a person who lives very sincerely and purely.
Every year, when the K8 Literature class holds a reunion, Mr. Son and some teachers are often invited to join the fun with the students.

During a class reunion, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong shared his thoughts and feelings about humanity, friendship, comradeship, colleagueship, and teacher-student relationships.
“At that time, I told Mr. Trong: “Since you mentioned the word “Love”, I will give you a Sino-Vietnamese poem that I had just collected: “In this world, everything is just foam and illusion. A thousand lifetimes pass, only one thing remains, which is love, love of life, love of people.”
After listening, Mr. Trong commented: "The poem is so good, teacher. It matches my thoughts and lifestyle very well," teacher Nguyen Van Son recounted.
Silently recalling memories with his students outside the funeral home, teacher Nguyen Ngoc Son choked up: “My heart is filled with sorrow. I respectfully bid farewell to you, a great personality – Comrade General Secretary – who always deeply engraves the teacher-student relationship.”
"I only know the General Secretary through TV but I respect him very much"
On the morning of July 25, outside the National Funeral Home, many people were present early to wait to pay their respects to the General Secretary.
Traveling more than 30km, Ms. Dinh Thi Hue (66 years old, Nghiem Xuyen commune, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi) was on Lo Duc street heading to the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong early in the morning.
Ms. Hue said she tossed and turned the night before, waiting for morning to come so she could visit General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The woman left home at 5am, initially planning to take two buses. When she reached the old National Highway 1A, she met a patient who was going to see a doctor, so she asked for a ride to the funeral home.

Mrs. Hue recalled that a week ago, her daughter read information on social media about the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. She said she was “very shocked” and asked her daughter, “Is it true?”
“It wasn’t until the evening when the news of the General Secretary’s passing was broadcast on TV that I accepted the truth. I felt so sorry for the General Secretary,” Ms. Hue said.
The 66-year-old woman said that hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing made her feel "like losing a family member."
Ms. Hue said she had never met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, but she “always respected the leader’s integrity and simplicity.” In recent days, every time she looked at pictures of the General Secretary, she was on the verge of tears.

“I just want to pay my respects to the General Secretary to show my gratitude for what he has done for the people and the country. In the past few days, when the TV announced that people could pay their respects to the General Secretary, I arranged my work and left early today. I will wait until evening to pay my respects,” Ms. Hue said.
