On September 23, in Hanoi, the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education and the National Assembly Office held a press conference to inform about the second mock session of the "Children's National Assembly" in 2024.
Standing Vice President of the Central Council of Young Pioneers Le Hai Long said the meeting took place from September 27-29 with the participation of 306 delegates who are outstanding young pioneers from 63 provinces and cities across the country.
Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education Nguyen Thi Mai Hoa hopes that the voices of children at this mock session will contribute to creating more emphasis for children's consultation on children's rights issues that the National Assembly is concerned about.
The two topics of this year's Children's National Assembly Mock Session include: "Preventing and combating school violence, creating a safe environment for children" and "Preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco and stimulants in the school environment". The topics were selected from 6 groups of issues sent by children from 63 provinces and cities, then collected and commented on for 2 months with 300,000 comments.
Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, Nguyen Pham Duy Trang shared that the meeting was an activity to effectively implement the 2016 Law on Children; concretize the National Action Program for Children for the period 2021-2030; and deploy the Project "Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union promotes children's participation in children's issues for the period 2023-2027."
"The hypothetical 'Children's National Assembly' session is a new model of activity promoting children's right to participate in related issues. The session helps children experience and learn about the highest state power apparatus, the National Assembly. The session also affirms the attention of the Party, State and National Assembly leaders to the work of protecting, caring for and educating children," Secretary Nguyen Pham Duy Trang added.
Nguyen Thuy Tien (class 9C, Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province) hopes that through the meeting, families, schools and society will listen to and understand the difficulties and challenges children are facing in modern life.
This is also an opportunity to change the approach in propaganda work, providing effective and practical solutions to ensure that every child lives in a safe, healthy environment, with conditions for comprehensive development in both physical and mental aspects.
As planned, on the first day (September 27), the delegates will meet with the Young National Assembly Delegates Group, the Central Youth Union Secretariat, the Standing Committee of the Central Youth Union Council; and visit and experience the "Quintessence of Confucianism" at the Temple of Literature.
On September 28, delegates visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum; offered incense at the Bac Son Martyrs' Monument; and visited the National Assembly Museum. In the afternoon of the same day, delegates discussed in 12 groups on two topics: "Preventing school violence" and "Preventing the harmful effects of tobacco and stimulants, especially in the school environment."
On September 29, delegates will conduct a question-and-answer session at Dien Hong Hall (National Assembly House). The session is expected to have the participation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, along with many leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government and relevant departments, ministries and branches.
