NDO - On March 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that 22 wards and communes in Districts 1, 4 and Cu Chi District have met the conditions to declare the end of the measles epidemic. The Department has submitted a report and proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issue an official decision on this matter.

According to the Department of Health, the number of measles cases in Ho Chi Minh City has decreased rapidly in all age groups since the beginning of 2025. Notably, in week 12/2025 (March 17-23), 50 wards and communes in 13 districts and Thu Duc city recorded no new measles cases for 3 consecutive weeks or more.

The Department of Health has reviewed the records and reported to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to declare the end of the epidemic in 22 wards and communes that meet the criteria (no new cases for 21 consecutive days and have fully implemented epidemic prevention and control measures).

After declaring the end of the epidemic, Ho Chi Minh City still maintains close monitoring, early detection of suspected cases in the community and schools for timely handling, preventing the risk of re-outbreak. The vaccination program continues to be implemented to ensure that children are fully vaccinated with 2 doses of measles vaccine and catch-up vaccinations for children who have not been fully vaccinated.

Communication work has also been strengthened to raise public awareness of the benefits of vaccination, encourage parents to take their children for vaccination on schedule and maintain personal hygiene and disease prevention measures.

The Department of Health recommends that people should not be subjective and should proactively implement measures to prevent and control measles such as fully vaccinating children, washing hands regularly, covering mouths when coughing or sneezing, eating nutritious foods, improving physical fitness and keeping the living environment clean.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have received 8,087 measles cases from districts in the city and 12,226 cases from other provinces. By March 23, 2025, the measles vaccination campaign had reached 280,244 injections across the city, with the vaccination rate for children aged 1-5 reaching 100% and children aged 6-10 reaching 99.51%, contributing significantly to disease control.
