Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee said that the Prime Minister has just issued Decision No. 813/QD-TTg on recognizing Dong Ha city as a type II urban area.
According to this decision, Dong Ha city is a type II urban area, directly under Quang Tri province, with the scope being the entire administrative boundary of the existing Dong Ha city with 9 wards, total natural area of 73.09 km2.
The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Home Affairs; the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province and heads of relevant agencies to be responsible for implementing Decision No. 813/QD-TTg.

It is known that Dong Ha city is the political, economic, cultural and social center of Quang Tri province. Currently, Dong Ha city consists of 9 wards, a total area of 73.09 km2, a population of 164,228 people, of which the permanent population is 102,478 people, the converted population is 61,750 people.

Previously, on July 25, the Ministry of Construction held a conference to appraise the Project to classify Dong Ha city as a type II urban area, under Quang Tri province.
At the conference, the experts of the Evaluation Council assessed that the Project to classify Dong Ha city as a type II urban area, directly under Quang Tri province, had diverse information, comprehensively reflecting all aspects of Dong Ha city's development after nearly 20 years of being recognized as a type III urban area; the Project's dossier was complete according to regulations. On that basis, the Evaluation Council unanimously voted to approve the Project to classify Dong Ha city as meeting the criteria of a type II urban area, with a score of 82.89/100 points.
