On March 14, Acting Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong chaired a meeting on the implementation of the Plan to implement Power Plan VIII in the area.
At the working session, delegates from relevant departments, agencies and localities discussed and exchanged related contents on the draft Plan for implementing Decision No. 262/QD-TTg dated April 1, 2024 and Decision No. 1682/QD-TTg dated December 28, 2024 of the Prime Minister approving the Plan for implementing the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Tri, the draft Plan aims to effectively implement the Power Plan VIII, the Plan to implement the Power Plan VIII, and the Provincial Plan. Develop a roadmap to effectively implement projects to meet the set goals; meet the electricity demand for socio-economic development of Quang Tri province in each period.
Implement renewable energy transition from fossil fuels to new energy sources, renewable energy to reduce environmental pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Identify solutions to call for and attract investment in power source projects, power grid of the province during the planning period.
According to the draft content of the Plan, it is expected that in the coming time, Quang Tri province will have 43 onshore wind power projects with a total capacity of 1,800 MW; 500 MW of offshore wind power in the Central Central region; 18 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 260.5 MW; 3 solar power projects with a total capacity of 119.6 MW; rooftop solar power capacity (self-produced and self-consumed) is 23 MW. Other types of power sources by 2030 will import electricity from Laos with a capacity of about 2,000 MW.
For power transmission grid projects and regional grid connections, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province will actively support investors and the electricity industry, promptly remove difficulties and obstacles; promote the development of 500kV, 220kV, 110kV power transmission grid projects in sync with wind power, solar power, and gas power projects to ensure full capacity release of power plants invested in the area; connect with provinces in the Central Central region, Central region, and connect the grid with Laos.

Quang Tri also strives to mobilize capital to invest in developing a power distribution grid system or renewable energy sources by 2030 to meet the electricity needs for production and daily life of the people.
Directing at the meeting, Acting Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong requested relevant departments and branches, based on the functions and tasks of each directly participating unit, to work with the Department of Industry and Trade to complete the Plan to implement Power Plan VIII in the province, and submit it to the Provincial People's Committee for signing and promulgation.
Regarding the land plots for bidding for investment projects, acting Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province Ha Sy Dong requested Huong Hoa, Dakrong and Cam Lo districts to receive opinions from the Department of Agriculture and Environment to complete the dossier, with priority given to energy land.
In addition, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province also assigned the Department of Finance to urgently submit a list of land acquisition for the Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Provincial People's Council in accordance with regulations before March 25, 2025.
For investors, the acting Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, requested that interested enterprises promptly complete their application documents to request the Provincial People's Committee to issue investment policies. The Department of Industry and Trade was assigned to establish a consulting team (related to bidding), including members who are experts and officials of provincial departments and branches, to submit to the Provincial People's Committee before March 20, 2025.
