The price of live pigs in the North today increased sharply, in many places exceeding 68,000 VND/kg. The price of live pigs in the Central Highlands also recovered slightly, approaching 69,000 VND/kg.
Northern pig price
On April 4, the live hog market in the North improved significantly with a simultaneous increase in many provinces and cities. The common increase was from 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg, bringing the live hog price in this region to fluctuate between 66,000 - 68,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, prices increased by VND1,000/kg in the provinces of Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh. Of which, Phu Tho was a bright spot with a sharp increase of VND2,000/kg, up to VND68,000/kg.
Hanoi and Thai Binh are currently the two localities with the highest prices in the region, maintained at 68,000 VND/kg, marking a significant recovery after a series of consecutive price decreases since the end of March.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central and Central Highlands regions, the market also recorded a price increase after many gloomy trading sessions. The price of live pigs fluctuated from 67,000 to 69,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg in a series of localities.
Specifically, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa all recorded price increases, commonly at 67,000 - 68,000 VND/kg. Of which, Binh Dinh and Quang Tri have now reached 68,000 VND/kg again, while the remaining provinces remain around 67,000 VND/kg.
Lam Dong and Dak Lak are still maintaining stable prices around 69,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, with no new fluctuations recorded. Overall, the market sentiment in this region is gradually stabilizing again.
Pig price in the South
The Southern region continues to maintain the highest price in the country, ranging from 71,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. However, some localities have slightly adjusted down 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Specifically, prices in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Long An, Dong Thap, and Ben Tre have now dropped to VND71,000/kg. This is the second decrease in 3 days, reflecting a large supply at pig farms that are ready to sell.
On the contrary, localities such as Ca Mau (75,000 VND/kg), Hau Giang (73,000 VND/kg), Can Tho (73,000 VND/kg), Vinh Long (72,000 VND/kg) still maintain high prices, with no recorded adjustments.
According to traders, domestic pig prices are likely to remain stable or increase slightly in the next few days, especially in the North and Central regions. Market sentiment has become less unstable after a long period of continuous downward adjustments.
However, the potential for strong growth is still limited because fresh food consumption has not yet recovered strongly after Tet. In addition, increased input costs, disease risks and uneven vaccination rates have also made farmers somewhat hesitant to restore their herds.
