ANTD.VN - The e-commerce application Temu has just appeared in Vietnam and has attracted great attention from consumers. With extremely cheap prices, free shipping and a 90-day return policy, Temu has become a formidable competitor to e-commerce platforms operating in Vietnam such as Shopee, Lazada, Tiki...
Cheap price, free shipping is the biggest advantage of Temu |
Shopping is easy and economical
Temu currently does not have an official website in Vietnam, but the platform's application is already active, allowing Vietnamese customers to learn about and order products directly. In terms of low prices, many consumers are evaluating Temu as "unbeatable".
Ms. Minh Nguyet (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) said that for many days now, Temu's advertisements have been appearing on her personal Facebook page. With just a few short introductory lines such as: "Great find! Big savings with unbelievable discounts!", or "I see a lot of items I like on Temu and they are all on sale. It's like I just won a jackpot!"...
Intrigued, Ms. Minh Nguyet downloaded the app to try ordering. Temu offers great deals for first-time buyers. For example, a synthetic leather handbag for just over 22,388 VND/piece delivered to the consumer or 400 large disposable kitchen towels for only 36,201 VND, with free shipping... "It's really cheap like never before" - Ms. Minh Nguyet said.
Trying to order on Temu's app, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung (Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi) was also surprised when he received a pair of loafers just 5 days after ordering, including the weekend. "The size fits, the leather is quite soft, the price is over 300,000 VND/pair, free shipping. I bought it to try but I was quite satisfied" - Mr. Manh Hung said.
Like other famous e-commerce platforms in Vietnam such as Shopee or Lazada, Temu has a rich product catalog, everything is available. Therefore, customers can search easily, experience the feeling of "shopping like a billionaire", "spending money" without having to think twice.
Cross-border online retail platform Temu is owned by PDD Holdings (China) - the group that owns the e-commerce site Pinduoduo. Temu has opened a sales feature in Vietnam and has been running massive advertising campaigns in recent weeks. They have launched a series of incentives for users who open accounts and make transactions for the first time. For each type of product that customers search for, there are always a few models labeled "Celebrating the opening" and deeply discounted.
It is known that Temu currently has 2 shipping partners in Vietnam, Ninjavan and Best Express, with delivery time of only 3-5 days, equivalent to the domestic delivery speed of regular orders.
Concerned about product quality
Commenting on the sensational appearance of Temu, experts said that on the positive side, Vietnamese consumers will have another cheap and convenient shopping option.
However, consumers also need to carefully consider the quality of the product before ordering. On a macro level, the appearance of cheap goods from Temu also threatens domestic manufacturing enterprises because it is difficult to compete with low prices and fast delivery.
In Vietnam, after the days when Temu caused a "fever" and customers placed orders in droves, recently, some people have complained about the quality of Temu's products. Mr. Pham Quang Long (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) said: "I bought a security camera but when I tried it, the image was blurry and not sharp, it's true that you get what you pay for."
On some forums, Temu is also complained about advertising one thing and delivering another. For example, the app vaguely introduces a complete product with many details, but when delivering the product, the recipient only sees one detail. In addition, there are opinions that Temu's interface is not eye-catching, there are few payment methods...
How to limit the negative effects of Temu?
At a recent seminar, Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Dang Tuat, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries (VASI), said: "The information that 3 Chinese retail groups are entering Vietnam is very important and noteworthy. They sell goods at cheaper prices than ours, with free shipping..." According to Mr. Phan Dang Tuat, Vietnamese enterprises need to carry out digital transformation and "green" production.
According to experts, there is no discussion about whether Temu should be banned or not in Vietnam. However, from a consumer perspective, buyers need to carefully consider the product and reviews before making a purchase. For high-value items, buyers still need to pay attention to insurance packages or benefits when purchasing.
Meanwhile, for businesses, it is necessary to improve designs, optimize production to reduce product costs, and improve the logistics network for faster shipping. On the other hand, Vietnamese businesses can also cooperate with e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada... to distribute products, instead of just worrying about "coping".
In addition, to protect domestic production, the State needs to have policies to limit products that do not ensure quality. In the long term, the State should study tax tools to protect domestic enterprises.
Speaking to the press, a representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the e-commerce site Temu has not officially announced its presence in Vietnam, but Vietnamese users can still access stores on their phones, download the app and make purchases.
According to this representative, the low price of Temu's goods and products is also an issue that this agency is concerned about because it affects domestically produced goods.
The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy is still monitoring to have appropriate management measures.
