Zheng Qinwen is on the verge of winning the 2024 Paris Olympic Gold Medal after creating an earthquake with a shock 6-2, 7-5 victory over world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.

Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen created an "earthquake" in the women's singles event of the 2024 Paris Olympics Tennis when she defeated world number 1 Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals.
Zheng Qinwen won a shock 6-2, 7-5 victory over Iga Swiatek right on her opponent's favorite clay court.
This is also the first time Zheng Qinwen has had complete joy against the Polish player after 6 consecutive defeats.
Zheng Qinwen also became the first Chinese player to defeat a world No. 1 female player since the WTA rankings were introduced in 1975. The 21-year-old's victory ended Swiatek's 25-match unbeaten streak at Roland Garros.
The victory over the world number 1 helped Zheng Qinwen make history by becoming the first Chinese player to reach the women's singles final of an Olympic tournament.
"Happy is not enough to describe my feelings right now. If people ask me to play for another 3 hours for my country, I am still ready. This was a great match. Beating Swiatek is not easy, especially when the Olympics are so important to her," Zheng Qinwen shared after the match.
Going straight into the final, Zheng Qinwen's opponent in the Gold medal match will be Croatian 13th seed Donna Vekic.
In the semi-final that followed, Donna Vekic easily won 6-0, 6-4 against Slovakian opponent Anna Karolína Schmiedlova.
This is considered a favorable opportunity for Zheng Qinwen to continue to set a new record in her career with a gold medal in the women's singles event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Before the final match, Zheng Qinwen and Donna Vekic had faced each other twice; each won once.
Meanwhile, in the men's singles event, a big surprise also happened when defending champion Alexander Zverev had to stop in the quarterfinals after losing to Lorenzo Musetti with a score of 5-7 and 5-7.
In the semi-finals, Lorenzo Musetti's opponent is the tournament's number 1 seed Novak Djokovic. The Serbian player advanced after a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.
Facing Novak Djokovic will certainly not be an easy challenge for the Italian player. Lorenzo Musetti has only won 1 out of 7 times facing the Serbian opponent.
The remaining men's singles semi-final will be between Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) and Félix Auger-Aliassime (Canada) in the semi-finals.
In the quarterfinals, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Tommy Paul in straight sets 6–3, 7–6, while Félix Auger-Aliassime defeated Casper Ruud 6–4, 6–7, 6–3.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Carlos Alcaraz have an even head-to-head record, with each player winning 3 out of 6 matches.
However, in the last three encounters, the Spaniard has won all and the latest victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime took place on clay at Roland Garros 2024.
