Directive 32 of the Secretariat identifies the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing as an important, urgent task of long-term significance for the sustainable development of the fisheries sector; is the responsibility of the entire political system and the whole society, first of all, Party committees, Party organizations, leaders in the sector and localities who are directly responsible for leadership and direction, creating unity, synchronization, and high determination to achieve the goal of removing the "Yellow Card" warning in 2024 and maintaining sustainable results, contributing to socio-economic development; protecting sovereignty, sovereign rights over seas and islands; strengthening political and diplomatic relations, and Vietnam's position internationally. The Secretariat also requested Party committees, Party organizations, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations to focus on effectively implementing the Party's resolutions and policies on the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045; Improve state management capacity in combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; at the same time, improve the effectiveness of international cooperation, especially with European countries and the EU, strengthen diplomatic measures, and seek the support of relevant parties, to soon remove the "Yellow Card" warning.
In Da Nang, the fight against IUU fishing has been vigorously implemented by all levels and sectors of the city in recent times. Particularly from January 1, 2024 to March 5, 2024, the City Fisheries Control Representative Office received information about 1,278 ships docking at Tho Quang Fishing Port, and inspected and monitored fishing vessels on VNFISHBASE software, the national fishing vessel monitoring system of the IUU list announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, to detect and handle vessels showing signs of violations. Thereby, 553 records of fishing vessels arriving and leaving the port were drawn up; a record was made of administrative violations against 01 ship that exploited in the wrong area, and transferred to the Inspectorate of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to issue a decision to fine the amount of VND 25,000,000.
The conference also listened to presentations and discussions from central ministries, branches and localities on the current status of the fisheries sector, clarifying difficulties and limitations, thereby orienting a number of key solutions and tasks to effectively implement Directive 32 of the Secretariat in the coming time, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam's fisheries sector.
